OSI the progressive metal band was formed in the aftermath of the 9/11 arracks, the bands first album was released in 2003, and now after recently signing to Metalblade records and interest from a larger audience the album is been re-issued

The band & album is named after the Office of Strategic Influence, an organization set up after the September 11 attacks to spread misinformation and plant false news items in the media, among other functions. The Office was shut after The New York Times published a story on it; many of its operations were transferred to the Information Operations Task Force.

Office of Strategic Influence is the first album by American progressive rock band OSI, originally released on February 18, 2003. The album was recorded in June 2002 and mixed in August 2002 at the Carriage House Studios in Stamford, Connecticut.

Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos originally recruited Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy to work on a progressive metal album. When keyboardist and vocalist Kevin Moore (founder of Chroma Key and former Dream Theater member) joined the project, the musical direction of the album changed to become more focused on sound-scapes and composition than musicianship. Sean Malone (of Cynic and Gordian Knot) and Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) also performed on the album.

“Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” is a Pink Floyd cover performed by Kevin Moore and Mike Portnoy. “New Mama” is a Neil Young cover performed by Kevin Moore. “The Thing That Never Was” is the original “Looks Like Rain” demo performed by Jim Matheos and Mike Portnoy.

The Multimedia Section is approximately 19 minutes long and includes a concept piece directed and edited by Kevin Moore for “Horsehoes and B-52s” as well as two separate documentary style clips shot at Carriage House Studios during the recording of the album.

Metal Blade Records set to release OSI’s 2003 release OFFICE OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE this September!

On September 27, 2010 Metal Blade Records will be releasing the re-issue of super group OSI’s self-titled 2003 release OFFICE OF STRATEGIC INFLUENCE. OSI (Office of Strategic Influence) is an American progressive experimental super-group formed by Fates Warning guitarist Jim Matheos back in 2003 and features the talents of Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, Dream Theater). The band’s name refers to the short-lived US government agency Office of Strategic Influence which was established shortly after 9/11 to manufacture and promote pro-US propaganda in domestic and foreign media. OSI inked a deal with Metal Blade Records back in May and is currently working on their fourth album and Metal Blade debut, which will be out in 2011. The band gained a strong underground following through the release of their 3 full-length records and an EP. Their 2009 album, Blood and includes guests Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth). Past participants include Mike Portnoy on the first two albums, Sean Malone and Steven Wilson on the debut, and Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning) on Free.

OSI’s music can’t easily be pigeonholed and is a completely different animal when compared to its founders’ other projects. The music is a combination of dark rock chorus’ with atmospheric, often industrial keys and is an eclectic mix of both Moore’s and Matheos’ influences.

RETURN TO EARTH premieres music video for ‘Automata’!

Dutch Death Metal Masters HAIL OF BULLETS have launched a landing page for their upcoming new album ‘On Divine Winds’!

The expansion of the Empire of Japan throughout Asia, introducing a full scale war using all forces combined. The massive strike back of the Americans, whose marines bravely fought many tough and bloody battles on now forgotten insulate islands spread throughout the whole Pacific. This led to desperate Japanese defense tactics such as Kamikaze, human bullets and suicidal Banzai charges. Until finally, incendiary bombings brought the empire to its knees.”

The album title ‘On Divine Winds’ refers to the translation for the Japanese word Kamikaze, as kami stands for “God” and kaze means “wind”.

ANTERIOR have announced they will play a special one-off UK show on Halloween, October 31, 2010 in Swansea.

It’ll be the bands only show before they begin work on their long-awaited follow up to ‘THIS AGE OF SILENCE’ from 2007.
