Funeral For A Friend will be shooting the new video for forthcoming new single Waterfront Dance Club this Saturday 17^th May. The exciting news is that the boys want you to be in it! The single will be released in July and it’s the first release from the band’s new album which is to be released on their own record label. So as well as being in the video, you’ll get a chance to hear the track before anyone else. ,

You’ll be needed for approximately 3-4 hours towards the end of the day (late afternoon/early evening) and the shoot will take place at a location in the Greater London area which is TBC but will be easily accessible from a tube station. You MUST be 16 or older and will need to bring appropriate ID to prove this. You’ll also have to be responsible for getting yourself to and from the shoot and you must be prepared to get involved. Everyone involved will be aiming to have as much fun as possible.

Two months into EARTH TOUR we’re still alive and having the best time of our lives pussies. Yeah we toured in fucking China and Korea and Serbia and Belarus and Romania, drove through Moldova, swam in the Black Sea, Red Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and almost got killed in Transnistria (look it up).

Also, we’re working through footage while on the road and we posted two videos on YouTube so far, Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand is better. Australia we were still kind of feeling out our editing style… you know how it is.

Unfortunately Jon, our rental drummer from the Number 12 Looks Like You, needs to go back to perform duties for his real band, so as soon as we get back from the Earth we’ll be starting to audition new drummers.

Obviously you have to be a pretty special character to join this band. We’d prefer someone familiar with the HORSE THE BAND lore, but also normal. You have to have touring experience in really horrible conditions (picking up skin diseases from sleeping on floors, being rejected by ugly chicks, not sleeping for 60 hours or more), not think you are cool, not be way into sitting on your laptop in the “green room”, and be a really good drummer. We want someone who can play all sorts of styles really well and prefer someone who keeps it simple sounding while musically compelling and interesting and energetic.

We’re heading to South America and Africa in the fall and will do a full US/Canada tour in the summer. You’ll make more money than working your job at home. You have to know you wanna tour a lot and don’t mind being away from the USA for long periods of time.

The band have also welcomed the addition of new drummer Andrew Kearton, who replaced original sticksman Nathaniel Finbow. By Simpson’s own admission the change has transformed Brigade from a bunch of musicians in a “complete unit”. ,“I can’t believe how seamlessly Andrew has fitted in and it feels like we’ve known him for years. He’s such a nice gi and a fantastic drummer, and has nailed everything on the record so we are buzzing. Before, it was hard to feel tha we all shared exactly the same goals.” ,

Since Brigade’s formation in 2003, the four-piece have turned heads at every opportunity — right from when Will Simpson moved from Bristol to London with the sole intention of forming a band with like-minded individuals. ,An advert in Loot resulted in the first incarnation of Brigade, who played their first gig at the Bull & Gate in London’s Kentish Town in September 03. A few reshuffles later and Brigade soon impressed Mighty Atom Records (Funeral A Friend’s first home) to ink an EP and album deal with the band. High profile tours and shows with the likes of Biff Clyro, Fightstar, Sucioperro, Minus The Bear, and Aereogramme have ensured Brigade have earned their stripes on the road, building up an ever increasing loyal army of fans as they march forward. ,

The arrival of ‘Come Morning We Fight’ will only see this continue. , “We haven’t been afraid this time to try things we wouldn’t normally think we could pull off, and we’ve surprised ourselves that the results sound so natural. This is the real beginning of what Brigade can really give to people,” smiles Simpson. ,In battle there is no law, in the music industry only the strong survive. ‘3′ is the cracking new single from Grimsby’s finest, The Brightlights. Produced by Steve Power - best known for producing all of Robbie Williams’ (good) albums - it’s full of teenage angst and emotion whose subject matter is girls who take advantage of any and every situation in a relationship (you know who you are). Intricately driven licks and heart rendering drums highlight singer Leon Blanchard’s startlingly magnetic voice that sounds like a sonic marriage between Kelly Jones and Caleb Followill. The single also features ‘Another Night’, a rousing anthem detailing that age old dilemma - mates versus girlfriend and the consequences of both - that twists and turns and builds to an emotionally driven climax.

The video, directed by Jay Burridge who won a CAD for his art direction on Hot Chip’s ‘Boy From School’, was shot on an empty Pyramid Stage on a cold March day on Worthy Farm.

‘3′ will be released digitally and physically as a limited edition vinyl on new indie label Distiller Records.

The Brightlights spent most of last year on the road gigging and despite having to juggle time off the road with studying for exams, still managed to notch up an impressive 200 plus shows, including an appearance at the V Festival and support slots with The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls and The Rascals. Their limited edition debut single, ‘Inspired By’ was released last November and met with much critical acclaim, selling out within a matter of days.

The band met when they formed the midfield of a successful local youth football team. Indeed it was only a serious injury that stopped singer Leon going on to turn professional, such was his talent on the pitch. Luckily for him, and us, Leon is also blessed with a great voice.

The Brightlights will be touring again in the not too distant future, dates to be announced in due course.

Def Leppard celebrate the release of their latest studio album, ‘Songs From The Sparkle Lounge’, with a very special signing session at HMV’s flagship store on Oxford Street in London’s West End on Wednesday 7th May.

The band will be at the store from 6.00 pm to meet fans and sign copies of the new album which is officially released on Monday 5th May. The event will be the legendary band’s first in-store at HMV.

As part of the event, Def Leppard celebrate the release of the brand new single, ‘Nine Lives’ featuring Tim McGraw, which is available for download through worldwide smash hit videogame ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’. This is the first time EVER a band or artist has released a new single ahead of its traditional launch through a videogame.

All fans that attend the HMV event will be in with a chance to win an exclusive Guitar Hero branded & signed Ephiphone plus VIP tickets to see Def Leppard in concert @ Wembley on 26^th June. Kids In Glass Houses were ‘Best British Newcomer’ nominees at the Kerrang Awards last year and voted ‘Best Unsigned Band’ in the Kerrang readers poll the week they signed to Roadrunner! Their debut single Easy Tiger picked up fans and plays at Radio and TV alike. TestAmenT was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980’s. Originally formed as ‘Legacy’ in 1983 by founding members Eric Peterson (rhythm guitar), Derrick Ramirez (guitar) and Louie Clemente (drums), the line-up included vocalist Steve Souza and Greg Christian (bass). Ramirez was later replaced by wunderkind Alex Skolnick (lead guitar). Souza soon departed to join Exodus and suggested that the towering Chuck Billy take over as frontman. The band became known as ‘Testament’ 3 years later, while recording their debut album in Ithaca, New York.

“The Legacy” was a brutal intro in 1987, putting Testament at the forefront of the flourishing thrash metal scene. Following “Live At Eindhoven”, an EP recorded at Holland’s Dynamo Festival, “The New Order” in 1988 was well received producing one of the band’s most memorable classics “Disciples Of The Watch”. Next came the highly successful “Practice What You Preach” in 1989, then the release of “Souls more….

Of Black” in 1990, coinciding with the European ‘Clash Of The Titans’ tour with Slayer, Megadeth and Suicidal Tendencies.

After “The Ritual” in 1992, Skolnick, who was losing interest in pure metal, decided to pursue his interest in jazz and left the band. Clemente also departed. “Return To Apocalyptic City” in 1993 brought Glen Alvelais (guitar, ex- Forbidden) into the fold, and filling in temporarily for Clemente, Paul Bostaph (ex- Forbidden, Slayer). James Murphy (ex- Death, Obituary, Disincarnate, Cancer) soon stepped in for Alvelais on lead duties for “Low” in 1994, as John Tempesta (ex- Exodus) took over on the drums. Tempesta later left to join White Zombie, and was replaced by John Dette (ex- Evil Dead ). “Live At The Fillmore” was released in 1995, then Dette left in 1996 to join Slayer. “The Best Of Testament” was released in 1996.

“Demonic”, which was recorded in Testament’s Driftwood Studios, was released in 1997. James Murphy and Greg Christian having left the band were replaced by alumni Glen Alvelais and Derrick Ramirez (bass). Gene Hoglan (drums, ex- Death, Dark Angel) lent his percussion talents. “Signs Of Chaos”, a ‘best of’ disc of the band, was released in 1997.

Dave Lombardo (ex- Slayer, Grip, Inc.) was officially introduced into the band. James Murphy was brought back once again, and on bass, the legendary Steve DiGiorgio (ex- Death, Control Denied, Sadus). “The Gathering” was born in 1999. James Murphy abruptly departed, which was determined later for reasons due to a serious illness. Steve Smyth (ex-Vicious Rumors) jumped aboard as ‘touring guitarist’, later to be invited to stay on as a permanent member. Lombardo soon also left, not being able to commit, having other projects on his plate. In 2000, Jon Allen (drums, ex- Sadus) joined the band.

After the successful “Riding The Snake” world tour to promote “The Gathering”, vocalist Billy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called ‘germ cell seminoma’ in March 2001. Despite his illness and grueling cancer treatments, Billy offered his ground shaking vocals to the re-recording of Testament classics on “First Strike Still Deadly” with a reunion of sorts, bringing back Alex Skolnick and John Tempesta to record on the disc.

Billy has since fully recovered. A busy touring schedule of the U.S. and Europe commenced in late 2002, through the summer of 2003. In 2004, guitarist Steve Smyth left the band to join Nevermore, and “Metal Mike” Chlasciak stepped in.

JYROJETS READY TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM

JYROJETS were personally chosen by Richard Ashcroft to open his show at Glasgow SECC in November 2006. For a band who had not even released a record at the time, this was amazing! Richard really likes the band and decided to give them a break. He is one of the band’s heroes and they had already bought tickets to the show, never dreaming that they would be actually be performing on that huge stage. The gig was a sell out and Jyrojets’ exceptional performance in front of 10,000 people won a public thank you and praise from Richard Ashcroft himself.

Jyrojets have only been together since 2004 but have already headlined the BBC Radio
Scotland stage at the Belladrum Festival, had airplay on Radio 1 and Radio Scotland,
supported The Kaiser Chiefs, had a track featured on a Channel 4 CD, played a UK tour,
festivals in Spain and Moscow with a live radio broadcast across Russia, and made history by becoming the first band from Inverness ever to sign a major record deal! They describe

their music as a heavy kick of Nirvana with Simon & Garfunkel harmonies, Beatles melodies and plenty of attitude.

When they were 14, while sheltering from the pissing rain in a bus stop, drinking a bottle of Buckfast and listening to Nirvana with one earphone each, Colin Fraser and Martin Stewart decided to start a band and become stars. The two set about writing songs and, after a few years of trying out various line-ups (some were good, most were shite), they finally hooked up with three like-minded musicians and Jyrojets were born. This is their debut release and features tracks from their forthcoming album.

After just a month of rehearsing 7 nights a week in the local ice rink, they recorded a demo and entered a competition for a chance to play at T in the Park. They were chosen to appear at King Tuts for the T-break heats – not bad for their first gig! They didn’t know the T-break organisers had sent their demo to Radio 1, so it was a bit of a shock to hear it on air.

Their big break came in 2005 when a demo track was chosen for inclusion on a CD featuring unsigned bands from Scotland, and distributed to the music industry by Music Week. Songphonic Records were excited by the demos and flew to Inverness to see a gig, and soon after a 4-album deal was signed. The band had regularly been told they would never get a deal unless they moved out of the Highlands, but they have proved anything is possible if you have the talent.

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY are set to play a one-off show at the London Astoria on Tuesday 17^th June.

The Brazilian metal brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera recently released ‘Inflikted’, their first new music together in over 12 years. The album is the first outing since they recorded Sepultura’s colossal landmark album, ‘Roots’ in 1995 (which debuted at No.4 in the UK album charts). Their new project, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, features Max on vocals & rhythm guitar and Iggor on drums as well as Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and Gojira’s Joe Duplantier on bass. Rex Brown (Down, Pantera) also makes a cameo bass appearance on one track.

This long-anticipated reunion between the Cavalera brothers is something fans across the globe have been waiting for since Sepultura’s last gig at Brixton Academy in December 1996. Hailing from Belo Horizonte in central Brazil, Sepultura gained a legendary reputation as the one of the most highly regarded and successful thrash metal bands of all time, with two gold albums under their belts both in the UK and the USA – ‘Chaos A.D’ (1994) and ‘Roots’ (1996). “When Iggor and I met at the 10th Annual D-Low Memorial Show and got the instruments in our hands, it was like we had never been separated. The metal was flowing in our veins,” comments Max. Making an album together was the next step and doing just a short run of European summer shows was perfect timing.

,Three of the UK’s most exciting drummers have been confirmed for an exclusive show with a difference…it’s free, it’s on board a ship and it’s a launch party for The Bristol Institute Of Modern Music (BIMM Bristol). Jason Bowld (Pitchshifter/This Is Menace), Craig Blundell (Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden), James Hester (Malakai) are set to play a completely free gig on board Bristol ship venue the Thekla on April 20th. The sticksmen will each deliver an exclusive masterclass (stuffed with tips and pointers) playing and talking through their unique styles and techniques.

The show will also see drummers from a whole host of bands turning out in support including: Neil Cooper (Therapy) and Kieron Pepper (ex Prodigy), And that’s not all drum tuning genius Martin Ranscombe will be fielding questions and Mapex will be giving away hundreds of pounds worth of drums ‘free’! The gig is the second in a series of exclusive shows in support of the Bristol Institute of Modern Music (BIMM Bristol) which opens its doors in the heart of the city in September 2008. The college has an impressive line up of tutors who are highly experienced professional musicians whom have sold millions of albums signed to major and independent record labels, had chart hits, toured the world and have placed music into film, television and video games including players from: ‘A’, Reef, Hundred Reasons, Rooster, Biomechanical, Malakai, ex Prodigy, The Crimea, Skunk Anansie, Pitchshifter, This Is Menace and Snow Patrol, China style.

The college runs courses for musicians who are serious about a career in the music including: certificates, diplomas, professional diplomas and a Foundation Degree* in bass, guitar, drums, vocals and song writing. Core areas of the courses include: Technical Development, Session Styles, Aural Skills, Notation, Pre Production, The Music Industry, Music In Context, Music Performance and Process, Styles & Technique, Advanced Musicianship, Business Studies, Gig Preparation, Live Performance Workshop, Theory and Sight Reading.
