You can’t escape it. It’s all over the newspapers, magazines and TV. China’s meteoric economic rise has brought a new dynamic to the world. With its seemingly limitless production, it was perhaps inevitable that China would soon unleash a talented new rock band upon the world. But the analysts could never have predicted this. Enter CHINASTYLE, four English quarters of a whole slab of infectious, grooved-up, new wave rock, whose destinies were woven together in the Far East.

So how did China bring together two brothers from Dorset, a drummer from Stratford and a bassist from Woking? In April 2005, Rick and Tim were about to embark upon their first tour to China with their fledgling pop punk outfit, Get Amped, when their drummer pulled out of the tour at the 11th hour. As well as riffing for Get Amped, Tim had been playing drums for a nu-metal band, This Illusion, and had been taking lessons from rock drummer extraordinaire, Jason Bowld, (Pitchshifter, This Is Menace). Tim asked Jason to fill in for the tour, and one brief rehearsal later the three were on a 14-hour flight to Shanghai, en route to Henan International Festival.

An instant chemistry and camaraderie formed, the early core of the band had bonded. The vast crowds and open-mindedness of the people in China also really inspired the band. Rick describes the effect China had upon them, “We became more outgoing, energetic, experimental and carefree on stage. Ever since that first tour, ‘china style’ had been a catchphrase for the band, and we would use it to psyche ourselves up for big gigs: ‘Come on guys, let’s rip this one - do it ‘china style’!’” Back in the UK, Get Amped had changed their sound completely, and Jason, now permanently behind the drums, was pushing for a fresh start to the project. The brothers agreed, but then was not the time for a change – in a matter of weeks they were to hit the road for a troubled tour supporting chart-toppers, Rooster. Rooster split halfway through the tour, tensions ran high, but Rick, Tim, and Jason forged a close relationship with bassist, Ben Smyth. They shared, amongst other things, a love for touring in the Far East. Rooster’s fanbase was particularly rabid in Japan, and the four traded stories, and hatched Machiavellian schemes. Hanging out between shows, talking candidly about the future, CHINASTYLE had formed in everything but name. Ben saw out Rooster’s final gigs in Japan, and on his return, in a dank rehearsal room somewhere in the depths of Berkshire (after a quick check on the internet to make sure that ‘chinastyle’ was not some kind of bukkake site) CHINASTYLE was born.

“The fact that China is a country of such awesome diversity also seemed to sum up what we wanted from our sound and musical direction,” explains Jason. With uber-solid rock grooves tying the sound together, the band have been able to interweave soaring melody, rich harmonies, with synths and syncopation. Like a revved-up Depeche Mode, but with guitars and bigger amps, CHINASTYLE both excites the senses and haunts the soul. And like the country that gave them their name, this is a band with its eyes firmly on a wide, open future.
Politically astute, culturally diverse rock troupe DORP release their new single ‘Rollercoaster’ in the shops on April 21st through Caned and Able records, the video that accompanies the single is a phenomenal piece of filming recorded at 20,000 feet with frontman Piet floating in freefall and looking like he was loving every second. The bands debut single ‘London Out There’ entered the charts in October 2007 , ‘Rollercoaster’ the second single is expected to do even better.. check out this great song and video. *******************************************************************Having had an interest in the guitar from as early as 2 years old, Chris started guitar lessons from the age of 7. He was influenced from this age by classic rock bands of the past to the present (Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Who, Jimi Hendrix). After becoming known on the local scene when he was just 12, Chris broke into the limelight after being crowned Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Young Guitarist Of The Year 1997′ when he was 16. Soon after this, Chris was approached by Marshall Amplification to play at roadshows and clinics for them around the UK and Europe. Things got busier for Chris, his music was used in film and television and he taught as many as 45 students a week, as well as producing demo’s for other artists. The shows with Marshall amps continued and to date, Chris has played clinics for them in Austria, Hungary, Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, France, Slovenia, Russia, The Ukraine and across the UK.

Chris also appears in a series of documentaries ‘Inside The Music’ - an independant critical review of various artists and the albums they have released. Chris and the band also appear in a series of DVD’s from Marshall showcasing their new products. The whole series (4 in all) were given away monthly with issues of Guitarist Magazine and Total Guitar Magazine in late 2006 and early 2007. Each feature is presented by Chris and has live performances from the band.’
The Chris George Band also released their debut album in 2007, titled ‘CGB’. (review) The album, recorded in Russia and in the UK, has so far received excellent reviews. Also in 2007, Chris rejoined Waysted to write and record their next album ‘The Harsh Reality’ which was voted 26th best album of the year by Classic Rock Magazine. Chris George is an endorsee of Marshall Amplification.
Cavalera Conspiracy are due to release the bands debut album ‘Inflikted’ and with the Cavalera brothers 50% of the deal and examples already available on the band website it looks like we are getting a fresh updated version of Sepultura and the fans are licking their lips. Brazilian metal titans Max and Iggor Cavalera have commenced writing and recording new material for the first time in 12 years, since recording Sepultura’s Roots in 1995. The new project, named Cavalera Conspiracy, features the Cavalera brothers (Max on vocals and rhythm guitar and Igor on drums), Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo and Joe Duplantier from Gojira on bass. Rex Brown (Pantera, Down) cameos on bass on one track. Another track features a collaboration with Max, Joe and Richie Cavalera (Incite) on vocals. Monte Conner, Roadrunner Senior VP of A&R recently visited the band in the studio. “Having stopped by the studio, I can tell you the magic between Max and Igor is still there. When these brothers play together, it’s like the planets align,” he says. “Iggor’s playing is simply on fire, and as always, Max continues to have one of the most recognizable and powerful voices in all of metal. It was great to see both Max and Iggor with such big smiles on their faces.”

This long-anticipated reunion between the Cavalera brothers is something fans across the globe have been clamoring for since Sepultura’s last gig in December 1996. Hailing from Belo Horizonte in central Brazil, Sepultura have gained a reputation as the one of the most highly regarded and successful death/thrash metal bands of all time, with two Gold albums under their belts - Chaos A.D. (1994) and Roots (1996). “When Iggor, and I met at the 10th Annual D-Low Memorial Show and got the instruments in our hands, it was like we had never been separated. The metal was flowing in our veins,” comments Max. “It was the same in the studio.” Recording took place this past July at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles, with Logan Mader (ex Machine Head guitarist). Mixing at Undercity is currently underway. The still untitled record is tentatively slated for a February 2008 release. Among the 11 songs set to appear are: “Inflikted,” “Bloodbrawl,” “Holy Poison,” “The Doom Of All Fires,” “Ultra-Violent” and “My Sanctuary.” A B-side cover of the Possessed death/thrash classic “The Exorcist” was also recorded.
The five-piece have become a hot commodity with their bastardization of punk with dirty rock leanings, metal stomping riffs and a southern flair.

On signing to Ferret, Adam speaks for the band when he says, “When we started we always used to fantasize about signing with a label like Ferret where we respected and love most of the artists on. We weren’t even in the mindset of approaching them and it turned out Carl (Severson, Ferret) heard our music and got in touch with us.”
Last year rock ballad solo artist Zucchero kicked off his great FLY WORLD Tour on 3 May at the Olympia in Paris and until December 2007 had performed concerts in 111 European and world cities, all sold out.
This year he’s about to go all round the world with the “ALL THE BEST WORLD TOUR 08”.
This tour follows on from the success of the “ALL THE BEST” double CD with 35 songs, of which 5 are original pieces, which went on simultaneous world release on 23.11.07.
The concert is completely new in the stage design, lighting and, to a large extent, the repertoire, and revolves around an incredibly strong band with the following line-up:

Cage The Elephant played a gig this afternoon (March 15) at the Wave venue in Austin, Texas, as part of the NME afternoon showcase gig, during which singer Matt Schultz scaled a 12-foot wall to take the show to the roof.

A third of the way through his band’s set of raucous Led Zeppelin inspired rock, Schultz used the amp stake to climb onto the roof of the outdoor venue – a 12-foor climb – where he began waving a chair about, much to the fans’ delight.

Later in the set Schultz , wearing a pair of garish blue trousers, burst out into the crowd – which included fans MGMT – as he sang, bouncing off individual fans as the show geared up several notches in the energy stakes.

Things got so hot and bothered guitarist Brad Schultz came up with a way of cooling things down – by spraying a bottle of beer over his band-mates and the front row, after the band had played ’Sell Yourself’.

Manchester indie rock band Aircav are giving away free downloads of their live performances. Classy rock act Aircav consist of three Guys and a Girl and can be found gigging in the top spots of Europe as well as around the UK.
The story of Air Cav begins in the jungles of Vietnam. Allan receives a phone call from school friend Chris back home in Manchester. Let’s start a band. Sharing a passion for all things aurally uplifting; from sixties garage to French sitar music, this was going to be an interesting prospect. Mark liked what he heard and duly threw his melodic, driving bass playing into the mix, as did folk violinist Sophie who completed the band’s current line-up in summer 2006. Since then, the four have been inseparable, spending long, rainy, Mancunian evenings writing songs, dreaming and performing the music they love to people as much as they can.

Triumphant supports for the likes of We Are Scientists, The Young Knives and Architecture in Helsinki followed. Steve Lamacq heard an early version of “Alliance” and declared it one of the “Five Hottest Records in the World Right Now”. BBC Manchester got excited about “grandious indie soundscapes that will fill you with joy.” By the time Manchester’s annual In The City event came around, the tiny basement where Air Cav were booked to headline was nowhere near enough to contain this colossal sound – people clinging to the walls, flinging their arms round each other down the front, heads cramming through the spaces on the packed staircase. Three weeks later they took on Paris, headlining at the city’s coolest baroque indie hangout La Fleche D’Or in front of a packed crowd of young Parisians shouting along to every word.

The name Air Cav is taken from a reference to the “air cavalry” in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 movie, “Apocalypse Now”, a favourite of the bands’.
San Diego’s newest hardcore heroes LOWER DEFINITITION are currently in the studio, recording their debut for Ferret, entitled THE GREATEST OF ALL LOST ARTS, with acclaimed producer Kris Crummet (Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Kaddisfly, Dance Gavin Dance).

Speaking on the thrill of their recording session for their first official full length, drummer Valentino Arteaga,

“The recording process is beyond amazing! Since it’s our first album, this is the longest that we’ve ever been able to spend on recording, and we are amazed at the creative control we have. Kris is great because he is just as passionate about the music as we are and he really understands the sound that we are going for, what we are trying to do musically. He really compliments the band and is helping us shape this record.”
,The title, The Greatest of All Lost Arts, comes from the beginning of a long lost Mark Twain quote, and when asked about the meaning and theme, Arteaga details.
,“Twain was an honest guy, and we are a brutally honest band. We’ve been doing this for a while, and we see the music industry changing. Our fans are honest, and they know what to expect from us. We have to enjoy what we are creating, and we think that enjoyment and quality in music is a lost art.”
,The band is very eager to display their artistic talents on the new record, which Arteaga describes as a genre-bridging musical mix.

“It’s melodic and heavy at the same time, and all of the songs are lyrically related to each other. It’s very much left up to interpretation.”

Lower Definition self-released their debut MOTHS over the past year, which showcased their melodically driven yet edgy post-hardcore sound.

The band, made up of Arteaga, Matt Geise (vocals), Stefan Toler (bass), and Eddy Marshburn (guitar), formed over six years ago in their hometown, and have been on a number of notable tours, including Taste of Chaos, Warped Tour, and Saints and Sinners.

They have shared the stage with bands ranging from Glassjaw to Deftones to Angels and Airwaves, and describe themselves as “privileged to play with many of our favorite bands as well as the ones who were most influential throughout the beginning of our career.”

Most recently, Lower Definition has toured with A Skylit Drive, Crash Romeo, Grace Gale, and On the Last Day, to name a few.

London 5 piece Ben’s Brother are set to release a brand new single “Stuttering (Kiss Me Again)” in the UK on 21st April. The track has been a complete internet phenomenon, since being used in a chewing gum advert in the States.You only have to look at the views of the commercial on Youtube to get an idea of the swell of intrigue and interest that followed the first airing of the Dentyne Ice advert.

Following a fortnight of extraordinary myspace plays and messages, word soon got out about who ‘the band that sing the song in the Chewing Gum advert with the frog’ were, and they suddenly found themselves on the next flight to New York, with an single and album release date in hand!

The song itself racked up over 50,000 sales on iTunes before it even got played on Radio! It’s now climbing up the US Radio charts; the same way that platinum selling UK acts James Blunt, KT Tunstall and Corrine Bailey Rae broke in the US.

The extreme reaction to Stuttering (Kiss Me Again) then further continued on Youtube as people both in the US and then the UK started to make their own videos for it, use it as a soundtrack for their photo albums, and eventually upload clips of themselves miming to the song. It was this incredible response to the track from the general public, which inspired the band to generate the first ever 100% user generated content music video.

However, Ben’s Brother are no strangers to fan interaction having launched a competition online last year for people to submit their personal stories that would become the narrative in a new song.The song written as a result of the ‘Win A Song’ website, is now the B-side to this single, with profits being donated to The Samaritans.

The band are currently embarking on their first US tour taking in the SXSW music festival before returning to the UK for their third sold out headlining tour and the UK release of “Stuttering (Kiss Me Again)”.
