Brief Bio:
,
The Cult are an English rock band that appeared in their earliest form in Bradford during 1981. Over the years the band have had various line-ups; the longest serving band members are vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, both of whom are the band’s songwriters.
,
In their very earliest days, the band emerged as one of the progenitors of the budding post-punk music scene that was happening in England. Their music style was associated by the media with gothic rock, taking influences from the mysticism associated with Native Americans and psychedelic rock acts such as The Doors.[1]
,
It was after re-locating to London and releasing their album Love that the Cult gained a larger audience, charting at #4 in the United Kingdom and producing popular singles such as She Sells Sanctuary and Rain. Following this the band moved away from their original sound, adopting a more hard rock approach; with the release of the album Electric and the single Love Removal Machine they broke into the North American market, their 1989 effort Sonic Temple also proved to be a huge commercial success.
,
The band was fraying behind the scenes, due to alcohol abuse and off-stage tensions during the early 1990s. In early 1995, the Cult split up, citing unspecified problems on a South American tour.[1] Between 1999 and 2002, the band reformed to record the album Beyond Good and Evil, and reissued all of their albums in Asia and eastern Europe in 2003 and Japan in 2004. In 2006, the band reformed again to perform a series of worldwide tours, and a number of dates were captured for posterity by InstantLive.
,
In October 2007, the band released a new album Born Into This, on the Roadrunner Records label.[2] Prior to the album’s release, the band played festival and headline dates, and supported The Who, in Europe through summer 2007, with a U.S. headline tour to follow.

After a hugely successful 2007, Madina Lake triumphantly return in 2008 with their stand out single, ‘House of Cards’ remixed by Neil Avron (whose credits include Plain White Tee’s, Fall Out Boy and Linkin Park) – and it’s out on Monday as a digital download (impact March 10th)
,
The track is playlisted on Kerrang Radio (A-list), across the XFM network, on Virgin Xtreme and has been receiving BBC Radio 1 spins from Jo Whiley, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Dan Carter amongst others.
,
Hand picked by their editorial, only 2 weeks ago, the band completed their slot on the 2008 Kerrang Tour with a glorious rock and roll performance at London’s Brixton Academy…
,
Earlier that evening the band stopped off at G-Cap towers to follow in the footsteps of the likes of the Manic Street Preachers, Stereophonics and Biffy Clyro to perform a very special live to air acoustic radio set across the XFM Network (London, Manchester, Cardiff & Glasgow) on their flagship drivetime show, ‘Live From Leicester Square’….
The band had recorded a further fully electric ‘Music:Response’ Session the previous week!
,
TV wise, the band continue to dominate UK Screens . . . huge support for the band to date has come in from The Box, B4 TV, Chartshow TV, The Hits, MTV2, MTV Flux, Kerrang TV, Q TV and Scuzz . . and MTV2 are set to re-run the bands MTV2 ‘Cribs’ later this month.
,
Are the band connecting in the UK?
,
Having sold nearly 40,000 albums so far in the UK, Madina Lake were voted ‘BEST INTERNATIONAL NEWCOMER’ at this year’s Kerrang Awards (beating off competition
from 30 Seconds To Mars and HelloGoodbye) – and more importantly they were voted the ‘# 1 BEST NEW BAND of 2007’ in the magazines recent Readers Poll issue as voted for by music fans in the UK . .
,
Myspace Stats…
,
The band have clocked up almost 5 million plays on Myspace . . . and has close to 200,000 friends . .
,
‘HOUSE OF CARDS (Neal Avron Radio Mix)’ - Digital Release on Feb 25th 2008 – Impact date March 10th ….
‘
Most artists claim they would suffer for their art. The founding members of Chicago’s Madina Lake gamely faced death for theirs, crawling through trenches, munching on cow parts, ingesting maggots and eventually being hospitalized, all in the name of rock n’ roll.
A year before they were recovering from their adventure in infirmary beds, twins Nathan Leone (vocals) and Matthew Leone (bass) had joined musical forces with guitarist Mateo Camargo and drummer Daniel Torelli - two musicians who shared the siblings’ vision for creating hook-laden, pop culture-inspired hard rock with a message - to form Madina Lake, named after the fictional 1950’s town from a story Matthew penned. The town is turned upside down when its most famous socialite, Adalia, mysteriously disappears.,
“Madina Lake is a microcosm of what’s happening in America today,” Nathan explains. “Everyone wants to be famous and everyone wants to live louder than everyone else.”
,
Tackling the consequences of society’s fixation with pop culture and materialism might seem like heady stuff for a rock band, but Madina Lake isn’t out to preach or bring listeners down. Instead, they deliver their message with stunning pop sensibility. Their sense of humor might be due in no small part to the time they experienced that “living louder” lifestyle firsthand. Egged on by friends, the Leone brothers applied for and were accepted to appear on the “twins” episode of the gross-out reality show Fear Factor. “The producers asked us ‘Why do you want to be on the show?’” Nathan recalled. “We were like ‘We don’t. We’re not athletic types, we’re skinny little rock dudes!’ I guess they liked that we didn’t care.” Not having body builder physiques proved no match for their unstoppable drive.
,
Accepting the Fear Factor challenge in hopes of scoring the grand $50,000 prize to kickstart their career, the brothers had to dangle from a helicopter and chug ground up cow parts while clambering through a trench. Though they both picked up a nasty infection that nearly killed them, their ambition proved solid and they won. Upon recovery, IVs were quickly traded for mics and a touring vehicle. A demo was put together, shows were booked, a record deal with Roadrunner Records was promptly landed.
,
The band went to Los Angeles to record their debut album, From Them, Through Us, To You, with Mark Trombino behind the board. Having worked with Jimmy Eat World, Motion City Soundtrack, Finch and blink-182, Trombino was the perfect choice to capture Madina Lake’s upbeat pop sound while preserving the intense subject matter of their songs. From Them, Through Us, To You bounds from speakers with subtly catchy hooks and poignant vocals shouting brilliantly-crafted lyrics. Album opener “Here I Stand” starts with a delicate introduction before erupting quickly into heavy, speedy guitars. “At first listen it sounds like it’s about losing a girl and being bummed about being alone,” Nathan says. “It’s really about what you do if you might not be able to realize your dream. How do you live your life?”
,
The album’s debut single is the turbulent “House of Cards,” which is led by a driving beat and deeply tormented vocals, revealing secrets like “I’m afraid to be alone / I’m afraid that one day you’ll find out.” Nathan says the track is about “people who keep a million secrets. No one will admit it, but if you pry a little you’ll find out the weirdest things about people.”
,
“Adalia,” about the disappearing socialite, juxtaposes harsh, shrieked background vocals with a bouncy drumline. It’s fittingly experimental for a song Nathan says is about “girls that really struggle with things like depression and anxiety…the super-famous social butterfly who has all the demons underneath.”,
,
And while many songs that tell the Madina Lake story are ultimately about people or society in general - like “River People,” a song about integrity - the band isn’t afraid to get highly personal as on a track like “Me Vs. World.” Set against dark, hook-laden instrumentals are lyrics about “feeling completely outcast, alone, and not understanding how the world works and why people don’t feel the same as you,” the song is at once about the twins’ loss of their mother, and about the struggle of adolescence.
,
“We’re not going to be afraid to talk about what we believe,” Nathan says. “We don’t put constraints on ourselves. We want to carve a brand new path and do our own thing.”
,
Obviously, the world is listening. To date, Madina Lake has played over 120 shows in just 10 short months of touring. They are selling around 100 copies of their EP a night and have amassed a loyal fanbase who sing their praises on MySpace.com, various blogspots and fansites. They have toured in the United States with 10 Years, Halifax, Red Jump Suit Apparatus and in the U.K. with Paramore, Cute Is What We Aim For and Gym Class Heroes. The band is set to head out again in the U.S. with Halifax upon release of the record.
,
Though they are only at the beginning of that path, Madina Lake have already crafted a detailed map to lead listeners towards a new horizon in rock. Their sun has only begun to rise.

Within Temptation have come a long way in the last ten years. From their humble beginnings, the Dutch band have now sold over 1.2 million CDs and DVDs world-wide, making them not only Holland’s biggest selling musical export but also one of the fastest growing new rock acts internationally. Formed in 1996 around the nucleus of guitarist Robert Westerholt and vocalist Sharon den Adel, Within Temptation released their debut album Enter through Dutch indie label DSFA the following April.,The album saw the band playing gigs across the continent, firmly cementing their phenomenal live reputation – most notably two appearances at the legendary Dynamo festival (in both 1997 and then on the main stage in 1998). Unbelievably for a band who were attracting such critical and commercial acclaim, they were actually all still in college. And so in 1999, Within Temptation went on hiatus to allow the band to finish their studies. Returning to the fray twelve months later, 2000 was to prove a pivotal year for the band. Building on their strong live following by playing all the major European festivals, the band released their second album Mother Earth in December. The new album again garnered critical acclaim - hugely influential Dutch music magazine Aloha tipped Within Temptation “for a major breakthrough” – and Mother Earth stayed in the Dutch charts for over three months. Starting the year with a major club tour of their homeland, Within Temptation released two singles from Mother Earth, Our Farewell and Ice Queen. It was Ice Queen that finally led to Within Temptation’s first mainstream commercial success. The single peaked at #2 in the Dutch charts with the album re-entering the charts at #3, eventually reaching Platinum status. The band’s popularity in Holland continued to grow and in 2002 it spread like wildfire across the continent.
,
Mother Earth clocked-up Platinum and Gold status in Germany and Belgium respectively, while the Mother Earth Tour DVD received Gold status in their homeland and won the band an ‘Edison Award’. Returning to the studio in 2004, Within Temptation were set to record their third and most successful record to date, The Silent Force, with producer Daniel Gibson. Fuelled by the massive international radio hit Stand My Ground, the album went to #1 in the Netherlands and Finland, #5 in Germany, Top 10 in Belgium, Portugal and Spain, Top 20 in Austria and Switzerland and Top 30 in Greece, France, Turkey, Sweden and Norway. A myriad of Gold and Platinum certifications followed.
,
The single Angels was released in June 2005 to coincide with their now annual festival run - which included appearances at Pinkpop, Werchter, Rock Am Ring, Sweden Rock, Ruisrock, Aerodrome and Gurtenfest – and European tours with Iron Maiden and Rammstein. In August, Within Temptation received a World Music Award for Best Selling Dutch Artist In The World. A release of The Silent Force in Japan, Australia, and the UK was next. More plaudits followed in 2006 with Within Temptation receiving the Dutch Export Award (“Best International Selling Artist”) for the third consecutive time in a row and a Golden God Award from the UK’s Metal Hammer magazine for Best Video.
,
They also released a special video trailer of new song The Howling via the internet in December in cooperation with game developer Spellborn. 2007 will see Within Temptation release the brand new single What Have You Done, featuring guest vocals from Life Of Agony front man Keith Caputo, and tour extensively across Europe (starting March 24 in Lisbon). Their new album, The Heart Of Everything, is set for release in March, produced again by Daniel Gibson and mixed by Stefan Glaumann (Rammstein). In describing The Heart Of Everything Westerholt comments, “Although you can still clearly hear that this is a Within Temptation record, many things have changed and evolved. Sharon shows how versatile she is as a singer more than on any record we’ve done. On some songs, she sings with a lot of power; on other songs she is more melodic… a siren enchanting her subjects. Sometimes she is emotional and sensitive. The guitars also play a larger part, and we have added an extra dimension to our new songs too by enhancing them with historic samples, as we did before on Our Solemn Hour. Compared to The Silent Force, our new album is more dynamic and energetic. It has a more natural sound.“

I’m down in the pit waiting for the main act, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster a couple a minutes later they casually stroll onto the stage, a bit of fine tunning, and then, bang, right between the eyes, full on in your face southern rock n roll, I’m taken back, what’s happening here, the cameras flying through the shots and all I’m thinking is that these boys are good, I mean really good.

Live Review (in support of Funeral For A Friend)

It doesn’t help the headliners that they are preceeded by KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES who stalk the Astoria stage like they own it. Hell they do own it- frontman Aled bounds about with limitless energy while the band around him lay down their pop thrills with skill, style and enviable stamina. In a years time the Cardiff band wil be booking their own headline slots here and, on tonights showing at least, would be better off not bringing any of their tour partners with them…

AIRBOURNE BIO:
,
All right people/Welcome to the show/Are you ready to rock?/Are you ready to go?/Now we’ve got what you want/And we’ve got what you need/So get your ass down here/And let your ears bleed.”
– Stand Up For Rock’N’Roll
,
It is as clear a statement of intent as you’re ever likely to hear. One verse that says everything you need to know about Melbourne, AU four piece Airbourne and their debut album, Runnin’ Wild: forget your worries, get down to the front of the stage and lose your mind to some ear-bleeding, sweat-soaked rock’n’roll. Or, as the song continues, “Drink your beer/Drink your wine/Let’s have a good time.” Stand up for rock ‘n’ roll indeed.
,
Airbourne vocalist Joel O’Keeffe first realized rock ‘n’ roll was worth defending at the tender age of nine. Born and raised in the rural Victorian town of Warrnambool – population: 32,000 – the local pastimes revolved around playing football and falling down drunk. For young Joel, however, his only interest was devouring the albums he’d stolen from his uncle by Rose Tattoo, AC/DC, The Angels, Billy Thorpe and The Aztecs and Cold Chisel. “It’s hard to explain, but that’s always what I wanted to hear,” remarks Joel. “Straight-ahead Aussie pub rock.”
,
By the age of 11, Joel had picked up his first guitar and was trying to emulate the riffs of his Oz-rock idols. Paying close attention was younger brother Ryan, who’d also fallen under the spell of his brother’s “adopted” record collection. By the time he’d turned 11, and with Joel now 15, Ryan had bought his first drum kit and the brothers were spending their weekends rehearsing, much to the delight of their neighbors, who constantly sent the police over to the O’Keeffe household to plead for silence. “It got to the point where the cops would just end up saying, ‘Look, come on, guys, we’ve gotta stop coming around here ‘cos we’ve got other people to arrest,’” laughs Joel.
,
Instantly convinced that their futures lay in rock ‘n’ roll, it would take the O’Keeffe brothers several years to find like-minded musicians in their hometown. After a few false starts that saw the band perform as a three-piece with a now long-gone bass player, Joel was introduced to guitarist David Roads when the two worked at the Hotel Warrnambool. Bringing their guitars to work and, after their shifts, jamming on song ideas, Dave was soon asked to join the O’Keeffe brothers for a jam at their house. Bassist Justin Street completed the picture in 2003, when Ryan literally ran into him while stumbling home drunk from a party one night. Turns out his new mate played bass, and, yes, would be interested in jamming with a band that were looking to move to Melbourne. Finally, Airbourne were ready to fire.
,
Though it would be another nine months before the quartet relocated permanently, they began driving to the Victorian capital to play shows as regularly as they could, often returning to Warrnambool as the sun came up with just $25 to their name and a full day of school ahead of them. This exposure to the realities of being a working rock ‘n’ roll band in Australia would prepare them for when they finally made the move to Melbourne. The band quickly found a four-bedroom house that they could call home and started gigging relentlessly. “We absolutely attacked Melbourne,” says 20-year-old Ryan. “We painted the town with posters for every gig we were doing. If they were getting ripped down we’d go back and put them up. We had to walk, though, ‘cos we couldn’t afford a car.”
,
This work ethic helped create a substantial buzz. One-off shows in the Melbourne pubs became one-off gigs in enormodomes such as the Rod Laver Arena (concert stadium and home of various sporting events including the Australian Open) supporting the Rolling Stones and the recently destroyed legendary Aussie nightclub The Palace opening for Motley Crϋe, a remarkable feat given that by this stage the band had only released one EP, the appropriately-titled Ready To Rock. National tours with the likes of Dallas Crane, Jimmy Barnes, The Living End, You Am I and Magic Dirt helped further hone their rowdy live show – it is, after all, not an Airbourne gig unless Joel has jumped on the bar mid-song at least once – while a main stage slot on the 2006 Big Day Out festival confirmed Airbourne’s reputation as one of the country’s fastest rising bands.
,
“It comes from growing up in Warrnambool and being pissed off with people telling us that all the bands we listened to were old and we should be playing Blink-182,” explains Ryan of the band’s explosive live show. “So we always go onstage and try to prove a point about how good rock ‘n’ roll is.”
,
In 2006 Airbourne got their biggest break yet when, after a huge amount of interest from several international labels, they relocated to the States to begin work on Runnin’ Wild with legendary producer Bob Marlette. With Marlette’s CV one of the most impressive in the business – his credits include albums by Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper and Shinedown, for starters – Airbourne embarked on a lengthy pre-production stint, whittling the 40-odd songs they’d written down to the 11 that comprise Runnin’ Wild. And just to ensure their immense live energy translated to CD, the band not only enlisted Andy Wallace (Guns N’ Roses, Nirvana, Linkin Park, Slipknot) to mix the album, but made sure that what was committed to tape was done so with the amps on 11. In 2007 Airbourne attracted interest from renowned A&R man Ron Burman of Roadrunner Records in New York, and by July, Airbourne had secured a worldwide record deal.
,
“One of my ears actually blew out ‘cos I had my headphones so loud,” laughs Ryan. “So I recorded the album with one ear!”
,
From the album’s fist-pumping title track to the anthemic What’s Eatin’ You and the self-explanatory rock explosions of Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast and Diamond In The Rough, Runnin’ Wild is an exercise in booze-and-sweat soaked rock ’n’ roll that isn’t looking to change the world by abolishing Free Trade, but simply provide the ultimate soundtrack to the biggest all-night rock party there is.
,
“You have to bleed and do anything you can to make sure the album gets out there,” says Joel. “Every day you wake up and say, ‘how are we going to do this?’ We haven’t had time off in three years. It’s every day, 24 hours.”

Our luck that we are writing a lot cos he needs rest vocal wise at this point. We sincerely apologize to everybody at De Peppel in Zeist and everyone that bought tickets or was going to come to the show. It is the second time we had to cancel the show in De Peppel and we feel really bad about it, but there was no way that Kevin could do it. We promise to come back and make it up for real!

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the signing of the German extreme metal outfit ANIMA. ANIMA formed in the summer of 2005 under the name of Metmachines, but soon after renamed the band into Today Heaven´s Dying until they decided on ANIMA as a band name. The band has played a large number of shows until now, gaining a lot more experience. In the summer of 2006 the group started recording their debut CD entitled “Souls of the Decedents” at 138 Studios in Ellrich. The album secured the band their first deal with All Life Ends Records. “The Daily Grind” was the title of the next MCD to be released in the fall of 2007, which was set to include five songs recorded, mixed and mastered at Slaughter’s palace and Rape of Harmonies studios. However, the CD was never released.
Shortly after posting the first songs on MySpace the band gained interest from Metal Blade Records to everyone’s excitement and amazement. “ANIMA is one of the most promising bands to rise from the European underground. Considering the quality of their songs it´s hard to believe all the band members are just between 16 and 19 years old” comments A&R Andreas Reissnauer of the European Metal Blade department. Obviously the band didn’t hesitate long, signing a Worldwide contract soon after. Comments ANIMA: “We are over the moon and still can´t believe we are under contract with Metal Blade Records. It´s a huge honor and we hope that our collaboration will be of long continuance. We have reached one of our biggest goals and would like to thank everyone who supported us so far” Check out a few songs of the unreleased “The Daily Grind” MCD at the bands myspace-site
ANIMA plan to record their Metal Blade debut in spring, to be released in late summer.
ANIMA is:
Robert Horn – Vocals
Justin Schüler – Bass
Steven Holl – Guitar
André Steinmann – Guitar
Benjamin Kühnemund – Drums

2008 sees a new line-up for Cambridge based The Pretty Young Things, a new
album and an even wilder stage show:
TPYT are taking some time out from recording their latest album - which is
due in the shops Spring 2008 - to debut two new band members at The Cock
Inn In Dereham, Norfolk, UK on the 14th February as they fine-tune for
their upcoming UK & USA tour.
It’s the sheer force, aggression and the passion they inject into their
music and stage shows that makes The Pretty Young Things stand out from
most of the bands around. You’ve got Nathan (Nate) Sage, the drummer, who
pummels his assortment of toms, snare and cymbals like Mike Tyson in a
rage, Sean Couick, their new guitarist, whose ear-bleeding solos lead you
to think that he rehearses with razor-wire for strings, Dave Berry, the
other new boy, a bassist whose hands never cease moving up and down the
fret board for more than a couple of notes at a time, and of course the
man himself, Sam Baker, a singer whose main hobby in between singing and
ad-libbing lines is covering himself in whatever happens to be lying
around, be it flourescent paint, other peoples drinks or whipped cream,
and hurling himself towards solid objects such as floors, walls etc.
It’s not just another stage show; It’s THE PRETTY YOUNG THINGS.
music kicks off at 8pm and The Pretty Young Things will be on stage
sometime after 9pm.
The full address of the venue is:
The Cock Inn,
28 Norwich St,
Dereham,
NR19 1BX.

As you know our first solo headline tour starts tomorrow in Norwich, and here’s hoping we will be seeing many of you over the next month! It’s been a year since we were last on the road so we are all raring to go and looking forward to hearing what you make of songs from our new album, as well as some ‘golden oldies’ of course…
In other news we filmed the video for ‘Pilot’, which will be the first full single from ‘Come Morning We Fight’, last weekend in chilly Birmingham! It was a great day and a pleasure working with Director Nick Bartleet and his team, plus this looks set to possibly be the first music video in Britain shot on a ‘Red Camera’ for any of you budding enthusiasts.

Welcome to the world of Ginger. One of the UK’s most prolific and best loved rock artists. Vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, lyricist, story teller and story maker, Ginger is eclecticism personified. Whether it’s producing some of the best loved British hard rock music with the institution that is Wildhearts, touring with the Scorchers (Jason Ringenberger’s band) as Ginger and The Scorchers or solo albums such as 2007’s critically acclaimed “Yoni” or original stints in the Quireboys and The Throbs, Ginger is a unique
UK artist to treasure… Ginger is set to add to the legend with the imminent release of new solo album “market Harbour”. Impossible again to categorise the album is 21 songs/segues/bits and sixty minutes and twenty four seconds long. With no break in the music throughout the album, and packed with a weird and wonderful array of samples and loops in addition to instrumentation, the record is a showcase for the diverse talent of Ginger. ,From the classic Ginger-esque opener and first single “Casino Bay” (a mid tempo stormer awash with hooks) to country n western meets “Hats Off To Roy Harper”-esque skiffle instrumental “The Ninns Of Mourning”, from the Roger Waters infused “House Of Moths” to the punked up three minute blast of “Overeasy”, from the Burt Bacharach lilt of 67 second instrumental “Tenants” to the beautiful soaring instrumentation and melodies of “I Knew You (An Amensis)”, from the do-wop pop of “Couple Trouble” to the rolling toms of instrumental “Eye Of The Rotunda” and the slow build epic album closer “Shatterproof” with it’s haunting refrain of “How Can You Kill Something / That Will Not Die”, “Market Harbour” is a wildly ambitious album that only someone of Gingers creative talents could pull off as successfully as he does.
The albums was played and produced in it’s entirety by Ginger. Ginger is also set to release a double a sided single “
Casino
Bay /
Holiday”. “
Casino
Bay” is taken from “
Market
Harbour” “
Holiday” from previous solo album “Yoni”. The single will also feature an exclusive track “How Legends Love”
The legend just got bigger…don’t miss out Ginger tours with The Wildhearts in December 2007. The “Casino
Bay /
Holiday” double a-sided single is released through Cargo Records on the 24th December 2007. The album “
Market
Harbour” follows on the 25th February 2008. www.myspace.com/silverginger www.gingerandthesoniccircus.net

last year we ‘released’ a single:
‘The Coldest Geometry’.. with www.airbagrecordings.com
a romantic ode to the sublime architecture of motorway service stations.. set to storm charts globally.
Alas, production problems ensued.
shoddy test pressings were rejected, smashed in fits of audiophile indignance.
the ltd 12″ is currently marooned in eastern europe.
for those that placed preorders on our last tour.. we apologise profusely… but there is hope:
a new plant is being sought.
and pressings are due soon soon soon.
in the meantime you can buy the mp3 from itunes..
you can also buy our old EP
and will soon be able to get hold of ‘The Coldest Geometry : Remixes’.. an incredible, diverse set of abstractions & improvements on the song from the likes of Patten, Blackpepper, Littleboat, Aesoteric, Deadwood, Music By Numbers.. and more.. we love them.
n.b. this will be free with all gig-bought vinyl…
