Ferret Music has announced the signing of San Diego’s Lower Definition!

The band self-released their debut Moths over the past year, which showcases their melodically driven yet edgy post-hardcore sound, and is very excited to sign with Ferret, tells says drummer Valentino Arteaga.

“We’re ecstatic. They’re loyal to all their bands and a bunch of our favorite bands are on this label as well. We are excited to bring something new and different to the label!”

Lower Definition will be bringing just that on their debut Ferret release, which they will head into the studio to record in February ’08 with acclaimed producer Kris Crummet (Drop Dead, Gorgeous, Kaddisfly, Dance Gavin Dance). The band, made up of Arteaga, Matt Geise (vocals), Stefan Toler (bass), Eddy Marshburn (guitar), and John Martinez (guitar), formed over six years ago, and Arteaga cites their mission as “to be able to share our passion for writing and performing music to people across the world. Our mission is portrayed through our music, we play music because are passionate about it.”

Lower Definition has already been on a number of notable tours, including Taste of Chaos, Warped Tour, and Saints and Sinners. They have shared the stage with bands ranging from Glassjaw to Deftones to Angels and Airwaves, and describe themselves as “privileged to play with many of our favorite bands as well as the ones who were most influential throughout the beginning of our career.” The band will be playing a show in their hometown of San Diego, at Soma, on New Years Eve, and plan to be on tour in 2008.

36 CRAZYFISTS FORCED TO PUSH BACK RELEASE DATE OF THE TIDE AND ITS TAKERS AND CANCEL EUROPEAN TOUR

Due to a delay in the recording process 36 Crazyfists have been forced to push back the release of their upcoming Ferret Music debut, The Tide and Its Takers.  The album which was originally slated for a March 3rd release is now slated to drop on April 28th.  The album will still be produced by the band’s guitarist Steve Holt and mixed by Andy Sneap.

Because of the setbacks in recording the band are also, regrettably, going to have to cancel their UK and European tour plans.  The band was scheduled to play with Bullet For My Valentine overseas and is disappointed to say that they will not be partaking in the tour.

36 Crazyfists look forward to getting out on the road and seeing their fans in 2008.  Remember to mark your calendars with the new date of April 28th, 2008 for The Tide and Its Takers hitting stores.

ROCKERS NOMINATED FOR 2008 ‘BEST METAL PERFORMANCE’ GRAMMY

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce AS I LAY DYING’s  Grammy Nomination for BEST METAL PERFORMANCE for “Nothing Left,” the first  single from their newest release, AN OCEAN BETWEEN US.

I thought someone was pulling my leg when I first heard that we’re nominated for a Grammy this year,” says vocalist, Tim Lambesis. “I’m completely honoured! Who would have thought you could play metal and still make your parents this proud? Now I’ll have to go out and rent a tux to wear for the third time in my life. I knew I should have just bought one the first time…

This band that Alternative Press calls “…one of the best pure-metal bands America has to offer” had their highest BILLBOARD Top 200 debut of their career with this album (#8) – also the highest debut in their label’s 25-year history.  Metal Blade owner and CEO Brian Slagel comments on the label’s 2 Grammy nominations: All of us at Metal Blade Records are extremely honoured to have As I Lay Dying and King Diamond, nominated for Grammy awards. They both truly deserve this honour for the great artistry they have accomplished on these tremendous releases.

The acclaim for AS I LAY DYING’s AN OCEAN BETWEEN US is widespread. Decibel Magazine (USA) states “…to these battered ears (this album) is a revelation…” and Kerrang! (UK) says “(this album is) by far the most aggressive, in your face statement they have ever made.”  Abort Magazine (Canada) adds of their progression “An Ocean Between Us is their largest notch yet. Growing technically and musically as a band, this recording shows a much fuller sound then in previously album. These twelve tracks show a definite maturity and diversity to the band, there is something here for every fan of tight, fast, smart metal.”

The bleak, futuristic video for “Nothing Left” was shot in Van Nuys, California at Sound City Studios with Brian Thompson (Killswitch Engage, Angels & Airwaves) lending his directorial talents.  “The high concept storyline mixed with the bands ripping performance should make this video a metal favourite,” says Thompson.  The story, which was conceived by the band and fine-tuned by Thompson, follows a female character through a series of events which takes place within a decaying, future landscape.  The video saw its initial debut on MTV2’s Headbanger’s Ball on August 11th and continues to run periodically on the show.

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES JOIN THE ROADRUNNER RECORDS FAMILY

DEBUT ALBUM SET FOR LATE SPRING 2008

‘EASY TIGER’ SINGLE SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 2008

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES is:
ALED PHILLIPS (vocals) / JOEL FISHER (guitar) / IAIN MAHANTY (guitar) /
ANDREW SHAY (bass) / PHILIP JENKINS (drums)

Cardiff based quintet Kids In Glass Houses, one of the hottest unsigned bands the UK had to offer in 2007, will end the year with a record deal to their name.

The hook-laden rockers signed with Roadrunner Records on Saturday evening, just hours before taking to the stage to begin their current UK tour supporting Funeral For A Friend. The band recently completed the recording of their forthcoming debut album with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout), which will see a release on the label in the Spring.

It’s just over a year since the then unknown five-piece burst onto the UK’s underground circuit, armed with a humorously titled, five track demo outing, ‘E-Pocalypse’. Praise for the now out-of-print effort, also produced by Dodangoda, came from a plethora of well respected figures within the rock media, including writers at Kerrang! Magazine, as well as Daniel P Carter and Zane Lowe at BBC Radio 1. The aforementioned backing helped the band secure their first major support slots, alongside Lostprophets and Cute Is What We Aim For.

The early stages of 2007 saw the band declared as one of ‘The 10 Hottest New Bands On The Planet’ by Kerrang! magazine, record a Maida Vale session for the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show, as well as tours supporting the likes of Hundred Reasons and 30 Seconds To Mars. The group then also became the first unsigned band to headline Klub Kerrang! at London’s Koko venue. By the time June had come to a close, the band were fresh off their first headline tour of the UK, with the majority of dates having sold-out in advance. The tour was proceeded by backing up their seemingly ever-present hype machine, with impressive performances at the Give It A Name, Full Ponty, Download and Hyde Park Calling festivals.

Further touring, combined with the groups relentless work ethic, was rewarded in early August, when the band were announced as nominee’s for the ‘Best British Newcomer’ category at the Kerrang! Awards. Despite losing out to Gallows, the band proved they were more than worthy of their nomination with sensational performances at the Carling Weekend in Reading and Leeds to capacity Carling Stage tents. As a result, the NME ranked the band at number 3 in their ‘10 Best New Bands’ at the festival report.

After taking the majority of September off, in order to complete the writing process for their debut full-length, the band re-emerged in October for another headline tour. This time culminating in a Halloween show at London’s Islington Academy. Never ones to do things by halves, the band opened their set with a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, with the band sporting zombie makeup and attire. But it was frontman, Aled, who drew the most attention, dressed exactly as Jackson appears in the now classic accompanying music video.

The incredible and inspiring journey the band has undertaken, is made even more impressive when you consider that the band have only officially released one very limited edition single, limited to just 500 signed and numbered vinyls. 2008 will no doubt see the band catapult further into the spotlight with an albums worth of their infectious brand of rock, bursting at the seams with pop sensibilities.

Roadrunner Records MD for the UK, Mark Palmer, says:  “We’re very excited to welcome Kids In Glass Houses to the Roadrunner family. We have been watching the band closely for well over a year now and have seen them develop into amazing live performers with incredible songs. They will be a massive priority for Roadrunner in 2008.”

KIGH vocalist, Aled Phillips, says: “We couldn’t be happier signing with Roadrunner Records. Everyone at the company gets and loves what we’re doing and what we hope to achieve, and that’s the most important thing. It’s been a long process, but we definitely feel we’ve made the best decision and feel totally at home. We can’t wait to get the record out!”

CLUTCHING AT STARS TOUR 2007

Fish and his Clutching at Stars Tour will hit Portugal during this week. On 5th December, Wednesday, in Aula Magna - Lisboa & on 6th December, Thursday, in Europarque at Stª Maria da Feira. For the second time Forgotten Suns will be the opening act for both shows. This is another great chance to see one of the best, if not the best, Marillion album - Clutching at Straws - performed in it’s entirety. Forgotten Suns are proud of being part of this event and to represent the portuguese progressive scene once again.

FORGOTTEN SUNS LIVE AT pROCK FESTIVAL 2008

The band will be performing live at pRockfest in Bünde/Westfalen - Germany - on 8th November 2008! “…it’s a great opportunity for some of our older fans across Europe to see us live, we know we have many german and dutch fans over the years so it will be great. We know that some of the bands we enjoy like Flower Kings(Swe), Pendragon(UK) and Riverside(POL) were there on previous editions, so it’s a quality window of prog in Germany…”

NEWS FROM THE STUDIO

The band has spent the last month performing live and moving to a new studio to finish the writings, pre-produce and start recording the 3rd album. Now with lead singer Paulo ‘the Snake’ Pacheco feeling even more confortable on the ranks, the band is tighter musically and ready to make some serious upgrades on the songs in order that this 3rd album becomes a progressive masterpiece. Half December and full January will be the necessary days to re-write some songs and do the pre-production, according to guitar player Ricardo Falcão: “…we still feel that this album can be more representative of the way we see prog music today; with the concerts we made we’re aware of Paulo’s capabilities and the extension of his vocal technique, so, the band is entering another musical dimension, a much wider one - these tracks will be the living proof of that…”

QUEENSRYCHE EUROPEAN TOUR

The Queensryche European Tour was delayed to 2008. Forgotten Suns were invited to be the openers on 19th November at Porto but according to the promoters of the event they will only come in 2008 (there’s no scheduled date yet) with a full Operation Mindcrime show I and II.
