An entirely tougher, edgier and heavier beast than their former band, the arrival of Stone Gods represents a scintillating new day for British rock music. Fronted by Richie Edwards, whose powerful voice resonates with four decades of classic rock gusto, and with Dan Hawkins assuming lead guitar duties, former Graham Coxon alumnus Toby MacFarlaine on bass guitar and Ed Grahar hammering the skins, these road-ravaged pros have spent the last year slaving away over hot guitars, carefully crafting the song that will comprise their forthcoming debut album titled “Silver spoons and broken bones”. A dazzling and diverse mixture of crunching heavy metal anthems, irresistible radio-rock and sumptuous, ballsy ballads; it’s a glorious celebration of everything tha makes loud, blaring rock ‘n’ roll so reliably exhilarating.
,
When the rollercoaster ride that was The Darkness came to an abrupt and messy end with the departure of Justin Hawkins, the remaining members of the band were staring premature retirement in the face. But when rock n roll courses through your veins, surrender is never an option, and so less than an hour after their erstwhile singer jumped ship, plans were already afoot to get ti’ show back on the road.
,
‘The whole thing had fallen apart,” says former bassist and Stone Gods’ singer/guitarist Richie Edwards. “I got the phone call fro Justin and I thought ‘that’s it’, but half an hour later Dan rang me and said, ‘Rich, do you fancy doing a bit of singing?’ We got together and started writing and it’s snowballed from there.”
,
“If your favounte song of all time was ‘Friday Night’ then you’ll hear ‘Burn The Witch’ and you probably won’t like it,” states Dan. “But that’s cool. In a way, that’s exactly what we want! We don’t want people shouting for Darkness songs.”
,
The aforementioned ‘Burn The Witch’ was the titular track from the band’s debut EP - a four track extravaganza that sold out it’s 2000 print run in a flash, and demonstrated just how exciting a proposition The Stonegods truly are.
,
Phase two kick off with an iTunes exclusive single release “Knight of the living dead”, due out May 25°’, accompanied by an intimate club headlining tour. Following festival appearances at Download and The Isle of Wight the debut album (Recorded at C Hawkins’ own studio and engineered/co-produced with Dan by Nick Brine and mixed by the highly respected Mike Fraser) will follow on July 7th 2008.
,
“I just can’t fuckin’ wait to get out there and play these songs to people!” enthuses Richie. “We’re all very confident,” adds Dan. “We’ve taken control of our ambitions and no one’s power hungry or fame mad. We won’t repeat any mistakes from the past. We’ve got a really punk rock attitude. I don’t have to play the game anymore. I’m not in a pop band. I don’t want to be a celebrity I’m not interested in any of that shit. I’m just so happy to be in this band. The music is the only thing that matters.”

After generating great reviews and building an even bigger fan base around the world, 2007 proved to be a major step forward for Rose Hill Drive. They were honoured to play with some of their biggest idols. The boys did a string of dates opening for The Who in 2007 and they were even joined on stage in Chicago by none other than Pete Townshend, who jammed on The Who classic “Young Man Blues” and Rose Hill Drive’s very own “Raise Your Hands.” Then, Rolling Stone named them “One of the Top 10 Artists to Watch” in 2007.
,
After months of relentless touring, hard work and travel around the Universe, Rose Hill Drive returned home to Boulder, CO to write and record their second album, Moon is the new Earth. The new album represents the intense “live” feeling of their show and showcases some the band’s finest songwriting. 12 songs run the gamut of emotions from the head-spinning “Sneak Out” to the muscle-bound “Trans Am” to the tongue-in-cheek “Do You Wanna Get High?” It’s an album that is shaped by an organic nature and is a clear record of their maturity, life experiences and musical explorations. Moon is the new Earth unveils the sound that is Rose Hill Drive.
‘
Rose Hill Drive’s raw, emotive rock has earned the group high praises from both critics and fellow musicians alike. The band have done dates with Wilco, The Black Crowes, Queens Of The Stone Age, Van Halen, Aerosmith and The Who; and also performed at Bonnaroo, Red Rocks, Bumpershoot, Austin City Limits, Azkena Festival, Hyde Park Calling and the Warped Tour.
,
“Recorded in our hometown in our favourite studio with our favourite people, this music bears our most authentic signature of anything we have created so far. To have made an album like this with my brother and my best friend has been a dream come true,” says Jake.
In 2006 they played both the Guilfest Music Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe; alongside some of the biggest names in the business. And after finishing a rousing set on the new bands stage at the superbly named ‘Glastonbudget 2007’ they were immediately asked to grace the main stage in 2008. They were also hand picked by Virgin to play at Richard Branson’s Virgin Summer party to an audience of around 10.000. Unfazed by the occasion they took it in their stride and went down better than a beer at sunset!
,
Other rewards have come in the form of support slots with the likes of Alabama3 (who described the band as ‘the best unsigned band they’d seen for time’) and Mark Morris of the Bluetones. Currently unsigned, Music Roll Exchange are now working harder than ever to be heard on a wider scale, and a small corner of the music industry has started to take note of their progress.

Finger Eleven singer Scott Anderson has recently been diagnosed with a badly sprained neck, rendering him unable to perform. This has led to the cancellation of all scheduled UK & European dates, including next weeks performance at DOWNLOAD! Anderson, who spends most of his time on the road, had this to share about the cancellation: “To tell you the truth, I’d rather be sitting on a plane headed over to Europe…
but my body’s pretty much broken at the moment so I doubt I could even do that. This recent gimpening has led us to cancel our European tour. This decision was not cool on any level.”
The band plan for the dates to merely be postponed and hope to make the trip over in the near future.
The dates impacted are:
June 3 Rohstofflager - Zurich, Switzerland
June 6 Rock Im Park - Nuremburg, Germany
June 8 Rock Am Ring - Nurburg, Germany
June 9 The Wedgewood Rooms - Portsmouth, UK

Nickleback’s new Single ‘Photograph’ will be released for digital download on the 16th June and in the shops for the 23rd June.. last week Photograph was added to the BBC Radio one main playlist and can be heard throughout the day.. after the single was released in the USA the single achieved the highest ever download sales in a week and ended up as the years 10th biggest selling track when it was released last October, now it’s the UK’s turn to get the single!
,
The instant you hear the first couple of bars you know you are listening to Nickelback, the unmistakeable rough-cut vocals leading the track into a trademark arrangement. There is no doubt that this is a formula with ‘classic’ written all over it.
,
The video features the band performing the song, with flashbacks to carry the story along. It is about memories of good times, with no signs of bitterness or regrets.Nor is it a heavy love song. You’ll love how this track reminds you of mistakes made in youth, but acceptance that our past moulds us to what we have become today. This song cannot be labelled as a ballad. This song is an anthem.
,
Nickelback have sold more than 25 million albums, played to over a million people in the last two years alone, and are high on the playlists both on music channels and with major and minor radio stations alike.Veteran hit How You Remind Me continues to get great airtime, whilst still paying its way in sales (and a karaoke favourite), and Nickelback’s most recent success was the highly addictive Rockstar, which alone was responsible for 2.34 million downloads and counting. From the high sales in the US, it is quite possible that Photograph will out sell this in singles, downloads and ringtones, and no doubt contribute to the forthcoming UK tour dates in September selling out completely.
,
All the Right Reasons is the UKs third best seller album of the year so far, and this is the second single to be released from it.You will continue to love Photograph until long after you hear someone torture it on a karaoke!
Kids In Glass House’s have been booked for the major Summer 2008 festivals including Download, T In the Park, Reading & Leeds & Summersonic in Japan! PLUS they were recently declared by Kerrang Magazine as one of ‘The 10 Hottest New Bands On The Planet’’, they were ‘Best International Newcomer’ 2007 - Kerrang Awards nominees and voted ‘Best Unsigned Band’’ in their 2007 Readers Poll Issue (recently signed by roadrunner records) they have had performances recorded for Nuts TV and ITV Wales’ ‘Pop Factory’ as well as been put on the BBC radio playlists and featured on the front page of myspace as the band to watch…
, Last Monday saw the release of the debut track by Kids In Glass Houses – a band so new, and yet a week on, even my mother has heard of them! The single, Give Me What I Want, has a sleeve you’d be forgiven for mistaking as a Kylie cover, and a ‘multi-room’ style video, although this may float your boat, especially the pillow fight in the underwear bit. However, the track is very likeable, teen-rock style, and after just two listens you’ll be singing along to it as it plays in your head. You may have already done this, as over the past week it has been heavily played on most rock radio stations, MTV2 and even made its way to the Radio 1 ‘B’ play list – impressive!
,
The album Smart Casual is released today and continues with their playful and youthful style – despite the rather seductive artwork on the cover! If you’re looking for deep and meaningful then you’ve come to the wrong place, although I feel the album will be the soundtrack to many beach or garden barbeque parties over the coming months.
, Smart Casual boasts twelve tracks in total, and in my opinion the top ones are Give Me What I Want, Saturday, and Easy Tiger but you’ll not be disappointed with any of the album tracks; it is by far one of the most consistently polished debut albums I have heard for a long time. In a clever media twist, the album has been available to stream on NME.com for the last week but is now available to purchase through all the usual channels. Personally, I can’t wait to get it on my iPod.
,
On the back of all this, the boys from Wales are part way through a UK tour, continuing with Oxford tomorrow (Tuesday) and ending in London on the 5th June. They are in hot demand, already confirmed on the line up for the Download festival in June, and also playing T in the Park on 11th July (which, by the way, is my birthday, so if you’re feeling generous…) Furthermore, August will see them at both Reading and Leeds festivals, as well as Summersonic in Japan.
,
Kids In Glass Houses consist of:
Aled Phillips
Joel Fisher
Iain Mahanty
Andrew Shay
Philip Jenkins
,
This mass media hype can be the making or breaking for bands, with a risk of over-exposure and peaking too soon, but I am confident that we’ll be hearing much more from these boys, and I for one will be following their success and progress very closely. Kids in Glass Houses are going to be huge!
Story of the Year continue their tour of the UK here are the show photo’s of the Academy Gig Birmingham . ‘STORY OF THE YEAR GIG PHOTOS’
,
Alternative rock heavyweights Story of the Year released their highly anticipated new album, The Black Swan, on April 21st. Like the title suggests, the group’s third studio album is anything but predictable. Combining the addictive choruses of their platinum selling album (US, AUS, JPN) Page Avenue and the heaviness of In the Wake of Determination, The Black Swan transcends previous releases as their boldest and most accessible album to date.
,
Featuring the smash hit single “Wake Up” and the piano driven ballad, “Terrified,” The Black Swan was produced by John Feldmann (Good Charlotte, The Used, Lost Prophets, Atreyu) and “Elvis” Baskette (Chevelle, Escape The Fate, Puddle of Mudd). “Making this record felt like starting over,” says front man Dan Marsala. “We’re like a brand new band. You can hear it in these songs, we’re excited again. I think we’ve really stepped it up on this record.”
,
Continuing with tracks like the remarkably powerful and deeply personal alt-rock anthem “Tell Me” and the thought-provoking “Message to the World,” The Black Swan explores social and moral issues close to the band’s heart. With themes of war and prejudice, and taking lyrical inspiration from the likes of Carl Sagan among others, the group’s latest album finds the band in a refined state. “Musically, we’ve grown so much. We have some very unique, timeless, face melting guitar riffs and solos that have come to define our sound, without compromising the idea of a classic song,” explains guitarist Ryan Phillips

THE STUPIDS REISSUES - to be released on June 30th.
,
Van Stupid/Frankfurter and Jesus Meets the Stupids are due to be re-released through Visible Noise on June 30th 2008. The albums have been digitally remastered and repackaged with unreleased tracks and liner notes and images from the bands own archive….
,
THE STUPIDS were the legendary UK Hardcore Punk pioneers who, in three short years from 1984 to 1987 went from 4 track demos to the front cover of NME and Sounds and Indie Number 1 Chart albums. The first hardcore band to record a session for the John Peel Show, to openly embrace US Hardcore punk within their sound and style, THE STUPIDS paved the way for the whole UKHC scene and “Britcore” explosion that followed. The Godfathers of UK Skate Punk now finally get the reissues their back catalogue deserves, and the first time any THE STUPIDS reissues have been done with the complete involvement and backing of the band themselves.

HORSE THE BAND looking for new drummer (after the end of the Tour)
HORSE THE BAND will require the services of a new drummer as soon as this leg of their ‘EARTH TOUR’ ends early in June. If you think you can handle it then read on…
,
hey guys,
,
Two months into EARTH TOUR we’re still alive and having the best time of our lives pussies. Yeah we toured in fucking China and Korea and Serbia and Belarus and Romania, drove through Moldova, swam in the Black Sea, Red Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean Sea, and almost got killed in Transnistria (look it up).
,
Also, we’re working through footage while on the road and we posted two videos on YouTube so far, Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand is better. Australia we were still kind of feeling out our editing style… you know how it is.
,
AUSTRALIA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkLGJceRams
NEW ZEALAND: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJB6veJBb48
,
ALSO
,
Unfortunately Jon, our rental drummer from the Number 12 Looks Like You, needs to go back to perform duties for his real band, so as soon as we get back from the Earth we’ll be starting to audition new drummers.
,
Obviously you have to be a pretty special character to join this band. We’d prefer someone familiar with the HORSE THE BAND lore, but also normal. You have to have touring experience in really horrible conditions (picking up skin diseases from sleeping on floors, being rejected by ugly chicks, not sleeping for 60 hours or more), not think you are cool, not be way into sitting on your laptop in the “green room”, and be a really good drummer. We want someone who can play all sorts of styles really well and prefer someone who keeps it simple sounding while musically compelling and interesting and energetic.
,
We’re heading to South America and Africa in the fall and will do a full US/Canada tour in the summer. You’ll make more money than working your job at home. You have to know you wanna tour a lot and don’t mind being away from the USA for long periods of time.
,
If you’re interested send us an email with youtube links to you playing these 3 songs: Hyperborea, Cutsman, and Sex Raptor. That pretty much covers all the territory you need to know. h2theb@gmail.com
,
If you wanna include bio stuff and pictures that’s fine too. Being black and a girl would be a huge plus. But not necessary.

A NATURAL DEATH is out now in Europe on Ferret Music
VISIBLE NOISE are proud to announce the addition of London metallers CRY FOR SILENCE to this summer’s DOWNLOAD festival, on the 13th, 14th and 15th June.

The band are set to open the Tuborg Stage on Sunday 15th June, so if you’re heading down to the festival, make sure you catch them!
,

“Cry For Silence’s combined musicianship is second to none.” Metal Hammer.
“Loaded with passionate outpourings, crunching riffs and searing solos, glorious is what you get.” Rock Sound
Hand Of Dog have recorded more songs and again they are continuing to astound with the quality of their sound. The raw rock ‘n Roll sound is going down a storm with all who hear it and with a busy schedule behind the scenes as well as putting together some venues for a tour this scottish act is turning heads. Hand Of Dog not only put together some blistering rock but the lyrics are also an important part of each song which is why the band not only play the tunes on their website for all to hear but they allow people to read the lyrics which shows that the band are being relevent with where they are at.
,
Listen to Hand Of Dog at the bands official website:
If there was ever a band to capture the essence of powerful dynamics, emotional sincerity and perfectly crafted songwriting, then Brigade are that band. ,Residing in London, but with roots in Suffolk, Japan and Bristol, Brigade are a shining example of a band that fall outside the remit of genre classification. ,
No rising young band can take a music fan on such an emotional roller coaster journey as Brigade. ,Here’s a bandband that write enormous songs; songs that wrap themselves around you like a grappling, hugging I and won’t let go! ,
When it came to the creation of second album ‘Come Morning We Fight’, Brigade’s only option was to aim their slI high — in every sense of the word. ,Come Morning We Fight’ sounds huge. It’s an album that towers over the majority of today’s rock bands and will ensure Brigade catapult into the major playing field. ,
Every ounce a contender for the rock album of 2008, ‘Come Morning We Fight’ is a maniacal masterpiece of sure rock hits. ‘What Are You Waiting For’ is a bold opening statement of intent: punchy, dynamic and raunchy. Firsts ‘Pilot’ is an infectious and atmospheric heart-wrenching ditty, while ‘Slow Dives & Alibis’ illustrates the band’s pow musical complexities and frantic hard-hitting drive. Ensuring maximum diversity, ‘Sink Sink Swim’ is a somber and uplifting, unashamed pop song. ,Recorded at Monnow Valley Studio (where luminaries such as Led Zeppelin, Biffy Clyro, and Manic Street Preach amongst many have recorded), Brigade enlisted the skills of Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Feeder. Oceansize) to record and produce this magnificent opus. The icing on the cake saw this beauty being mastered in New York at Sterling Sound by Steve Fallone (The Strokes, TVOn The Radio, Kim Gordon). ,
But strip this scenario down, take away the name-dropping, and you’re still left with an incredible and extraordinar primary ingredient — a truly inspirational band. ,While 2006’s ‘Lights’ was a debut from a band who were tentatively finding their own feet and direction, ‘Come Morning We Fight’ is testament to a group who have assertively honed their sound, challenged themselves as musicians, dared to experiment outside the norm, and taken immense strides forward in their outlook. ,
For the first time in their career Brigade united as songwriters, ensuring that every song was created as a team ef and all voices were heard. ,Says frontrnan Will Simpson: “We have aimed to write songs that will stand the test of time and sit up there with the best of what British rock music has to offer. This album has been a massive challenge, we’ve pushed ourselves to I limits in every way. We’ve worked with one of the world’s best producers with a track record that we all, as a band, aspire to ait alongside. We truly believe we have accomplished what we set out to do.” ,Lyrically, Simpson has expanded his horizons to explore uncharted territories, giving ‘Come Morning…’ a broader universal edge. ,“I’ve tried to step out of my own experiences for the first time and try to comment on other people’s lives and brand into darker areas. I fail to comprehend certain things you see on the news or hear about every day and also you ar~ affected by the happenings in the lives of thoae closest to you,” he explains, before joking: “Oh, and there’s a song about zombies too!” ,
The band have also welcomed the addition of new drummer Andrew Kearton, who replaced original sticksman Nathaniel Finbow. By Simpson’s own admission the change has transformed Brigade from a bunch of musicians in a “complete unit”. ,“I can’t believe how seamlessly Andrew has fitted in and it feels like we’ve known him for years. He’s such a nice gi and a fantastic drummer, and has nailed everything on the record so we are buzzing. Before, it was hard to feel tha we all shared exactly the same goals.” ,
Since Brigade’s formation in 2003, the four-piece have turned heads at every opportunity — right from when Will Simpson moved from Bristol to London with the sole intention of forming a band with like-minded individuals. ,An advert in Loot resulted in the first incarnation of Brigade, who played their first gig at the Bull & Gate in London’s Kentish Town in September 03. A few reshuffles later and Brigade soon impressed Mighty Atom Records (Funeral A Friend’s first home) to ink an EP and album deal with the band. High profile tours and shows with the likes of Biff Clyro, Fightstar, Sucioperro, Minus The Bear, and Aereogramme have ensured Brigade have earned their stripes on the road, building up an ever increasing loyal army of fans as they march forward. ,
The arrival of ‘Come Morning We Fight’ will only see this continue. ,“We haven’t been afraid this time to try things we wouldn’t normally think we could pull off, and we’ve surprised ourselves that the results sound so natural. This is the real beginning of what Brigade can really give to people,” smiles Simpson. ,In battle there is no law, in the music industry only the strong survive. Bands and trends come and go, but only ban’ of a truly special caliber will leave their mark in musical history. With ‘Come Morning We Fight’ Brigade are set to & just that.
