THE BRIGHTLIGHTS - ‘3′
,
Released on Distiller Records on 16th June 2008
,
‘3′ is the cracking new single from Grimsby’s finest, The Brightlights. Produced by Steve Power - best known for producing all of Robbie Williams’ (good) albums - it’s full of teenage angst and emotion whose subject matter is girls who take advantage of any and every situation in a relationship (you know who you are). Intricately driven licks and heart rendering drums highlight singer Leon Blanchard’s startlingly magnetic voice that sounds like a sonic marriage between Kelly Jones and Caleb Followill. The single also features ‘Another Night’, a rousing anthem detailing that age old dilemma - mates versus girlfriend and the consequences of both - that twists and turns and builds to an emotionally driven climax.
,
The video, directed by Jay Burridge who won a CAD for his art direction on Hot Chip’s ‘Boy From School’, was shot on an empty Pyramid Stage on a cold March day on Worthy Farm. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XJ0ocZjit2M
,
‘3′ will be released digitally and physically as a limited edition vinyl on new indie label Distiller Records.
,
The Brightlights spent most of last year on the road gigging and despite having to juggle time off the road with studying for exams, still managed to notch up an impressive 200 plus shows, including an appearance at the V Festival and support slots with The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls and The Rascals. Their limited edition debut single, ‘Inspired By’ was released last November and met with much critical acclaim, selling out within a matter of days.
,
The band met when they formed the midfield of a successful local youth football team. Indeed it was only a serious injury that stopped singer Leon going on to turn professional, such was his talent on the pitch. Luckily for him, and us, Leon is also blessed with a great voice.
,
The Brightlights will be touring again in the not too distant future, dates to be announced in due course.

The single ‘TRIP THE LIGHT FANTASTIC’ is the first release from this amazingly talented quartet and really is only the beginning of things to come. With songs every bit as vast and epic as their namesake, the band have been able to interweave soaring melody, rich harmonies, with synths and syncopation. Like a revved-up Depeche Mode, but with guitars and bigger amps. CHINASTYLE will excite the senses and enlighten the soul.

Not every band can claim that they got together whilst playing a huge open-air festival in the Henan Province of China; and not every band can boast talent ranging from the bands GETAMP3D, Rooster and Pitchshifter. CHINASTYLE can.
In October 2007 these four guys realized that their special bond could create an immense fortress of music, CHINASTYLE was born. The four members of the band have toured relentlessly over the last few years (in their previous guises) and been responsible for over a quarter of a million album sales worldwide.

If there was ever a band to capture the essence of powerful dynamics, emotional sincerity and perfectly crafted songwriting, then Brigade are that band.
,
Residing in London, but with roots in Suffolk, Japan and Bristol, Brigade are a shining example of a band that fall outside the remit of genre classification.
,
No rising young band can take a music fan on such an emotional roller coaster journey as Brigade.
,
Here’s a band that write enormous songs; songs that wrap themselves around you like a grappling, hugging I and won’t let go!
,
When it came to the creation of second album ‘Come Morning We Fight’, Brigade’s only option was to aim their sights high — in every sense of the word.
,
Come Morning We Fight’ sounds huge. It’s an album that towers over the majority of today’s rock bands and will ensure Brigade catapult into the major playing field.
,
Every ounce a contender for the rock album of 2008, ‘Come Morning We Fight’ is a maniacal masterpiece of sure rock hits. ‘What Are You Waiting For’ is a bold opening statement of intent: punchy, dynamic and raunchy. Firsts ‘Pilot’ is an infectious and atmospheric heart-wrenching ditty, while ‘Slow Dives & Alibis’ illustrates the band’s pow musical complexities and frantic hard-hitting drive. Ensuring maximum diversity, ‘Sink Sink Swim’ is a somber and uplifting, unashamed pop song.
,
Recorded at Monnow Valley Studio (where luminaries such as Led Zeppelin, Biffy Clyro, and Manic Street Preach amongst many have recorded), Brigade enlisted the skills of Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Feeder. Oceansize) to record and produce this magnificent opus. The icing on the cake saw this beauty being mastered in New York at Sterling Sound by Steve Fallone (The Strokes, TVOn The Radio, Kim Gordon).
,
But strip this scenario down, take away the name-dropping, and you’re still left with an incredible and extraordinar primary ingredient — a truly inspirational band.
,
While 2006’s ‘Lights’ was a debut from a band who were tentatively finding their own feet and direction, ‘Come Morning We Fight’ is testament to a group who have assertively honed their sound, challenged themselves as musicians, dared to experiment outside the norm, and taken immense strides forward in their outlook.
,
For the first time in their career Brigade united as songwriters, ensuring that every song was created as a team ef and all voices were heard.
,
Says frontrnan Will Simpson: “We have aimed to write songs that will stand the test of time and sit up there with best of what British rock music has to offer. This album has been a massive challenge, we’ve pushed ourselves to the limits in every way. We’ve worked with one of the world’s best producers with a track record that we all, as a band, aspire to sit alongside. We truly believe we have accomplished what we set out to do.”
,
Lyrically, Simpson has expanded his horizons to explore uncharted territories, giving ‘Come Morning…’ a broader universal edge.
,
“I’ve tried to step out of my own experiences for the first time and try to comment on other people’s lives and brand into darker areas. I fail to comprehend certain things you see on the news or hear about every day and also you are affected by the happenings in the lives of thoae closest to you,” he explains, before joking: “Oh, and there’s a song about zombies too!”
,
The band have also welcomed the addition of new drummer Andrew Kearton, who replaced original sticksman Nathaniel Finbow. By Simpson’s own admission the change has transformed Brigade from a bunch of musicians into a “complete unit”.
,
“I can’t believe how seamlessly Andrew has fitted in and it feels like we’ve known him for years. He’s such a nice guy and a fantastic drummer, and has nailed everything on the record so we are buzzing. Before, it was hard to feel that we all shared exactly the same goals.”
,
Since Brigade’s formation in 2003, the four-piece have turned heads at every opportunity — right from when Will Simpson moved from Bristol to London with the sole intention of forming a band with like-minded individuals.
,
An advert in Loot resulted in the first incarnation of Brigade, who played their first gig at the Bull & Gate in London’s Kentish Town in September 03. A few reshuffles later and Brigade soon impressed Mighty Atom Records (Funeral For A Friend’s first home) to sign an EP and album deal with the band. High profile tours and shows with the likes of Biffy Clyro, Fightstar, Sucioperro, Minus The Bear, and Aereogramme have ensured Brigade have earned their stripes on the road, building up an ever increasing loyal army of fans as they march forward.
,
The arrival of ‘Come Morning We Fight’ will only see this continue.
,
“We haven’t been afraid this time to try things we wouldn’t normally think we could pull off, and we’ve surprised ourselves that the results sound so natural. This is the real beginning of what Brigade can really give to people,” smiles Simpson.
,
In battle there is no law, in the music industry only the strong survive. Bands and trends come and go, but only band of a truly special caliber will leave their mark in musical history. With ‘Come Morning We Fight’ Brigade are set to & just that.

‘The Rebel! single is released on Repeat records on 19 May 2008
(7” Inch Limited Edition Individually Signed & Numbered Vinyl Picture Disc PLUS Download)
,
Life threatening hospitalisations, band members and managers last to medical conditions and breakdowns! hellish record label machinations, prostit4te~, cage sighting,, straçige porporate Jifel~nes., lost weeke~ds in foreigçi coqntries and all underscored by friendship and an unshakeable ambition and belief in the music. The story of Johnny Panics far is enough for a 110 page screenplay let alone an 800 word press biography.
,
We haven’t got time to get into all the gory details now, so let’s just get the salient details out of the way first. While still at school Rob Solly (vocals, guitar, songwriting) met Jonny Shock (drums, drinking, comedy) on a bus in south east London bonding over a shared love of music and they’ve been playing together ever since. A few guitarists late they struck gold with Matt James who they found right on their own doorstep and after the amicable departure of Ion1 time bassist and friend Nash Francis they drafted in Sean Mannion (Rob: “the most natural musician out of all of us”).
,
Drawing inspiration from the glorious history of artists that have meant something in the last 50 years of rock and roll any triangulation of where they’re coming from would have to include The Clash, Guns n Roses and the early American punk scene (they’ve covered The Nerves/Blondic~ and The Ramones to spectacular effect).
,
In October last year Johnny Panic released new album ‘The Good Fight’, to commercial and critical acclaim. It’s an album of stadium sized hooks and melodies wrapped around concerns of mental health, prostitution, drugs and prisoners of conscience. “There’s an ethic missing from a lot of bands” explains singer Rob, “we live in a society that refuses to question. That’s where rock n roll comes in. We’re not here to shove them down people’s throats, but every single one of our songs is trying to get something across.”
,
Not that they stand on their soap-box, but if there’s a cause they feel needs some attention, they’re not scared of highlighting it; they’re not afraid of a fight. But then front man Rob Solly, knows a thing or too about fighting. From th~ age of 14 he’s been practising Tae Kwon-Do, reaching a level that found him competing in the US and Australia, he’ also done Thai Boxing in Thailand and trained in Brazilian Ju Jitsu and boxing as well. The last two years have foun Rob training and fighting in mixed martial arts - yes, that’s Ultimate Fighting Championship and Cage Rage stuff to tI uninitiated.
,
They scored a British Arts Council grant to travel and play at last years infamous South By South West festival in Austin, Texas, they won a large sum of money from the Windows Live Spaces competition and covered The Turtles ‘Happy Together’ for NPower’s 2006 cricket sponsorship theme tune! All of this helped keep the band afloat and enabled them to self-finance the recording of their second album, inevitably and appropriately named ‘The Good Fight’. Rob even collared Biffy Clyro and Therapy? producer Chris Sheldon in the street and talked him into producir and mixing the record.
,
‘The Rebel’ is the second single taken from album ‘The Good Fight’ and is unleashed on the public on May 19.

Obituary might as well be spelled “ubiquitous.” What other words of praise are left to describe one of death metal’s charter groups; key instigators behind the very foundation of this musical form – one of heavy metal’s most popular, eclectic, and enduring sub-genres.
,
Beginning with their mid-‘80s hatching as Xecutioner and through a string of massively influential, genre-defining albums, core Obituary members John Tardy, Trevor Peres, Allen West, Frank Watkins and Donald Tardy (plus a handful of briefly tenured musicians, besides) have virtually traced the history of death metal itself. And now, with this collection, Roadrunner Records has painstakingly dissected, dismembered, severed, and spliced all of Obituary’s finest songs and vital songs in order to give life to the ultimate death metal Frankenstein.‘The Best Of Obituary’ album is set for release on June 16, 2008. On Roadrunner records.

Southern sludge grind-metallers SOILENT GREEN (watch video) will release their new album, “Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction”, on April 18 (D/A/CH/I) / April 21 (Europe), 2008 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was helmed by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, ex-Morbid Angel) at Mana Recording in St. Petersburg, Florida.
‘
“Inevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction” track listing:
01. Mental Acupuncture
02. Blessed In The Arms Of Servitude
03. In The Same Breath
04. Antioxidant (video)
05. Lovesick
06. Rock Paper Scissors
07. Superstition Aimed At One’s Skull
08. For Lack Of Perfect Words
09. When All Roads Lead To Rome
10. All This Good Intention Wasted In The Wake Of Apathy
11. A Pale Horse And The Story Of The End
‘ “It’s definitely the most level-headed record we’ve done in a long time,” comments guitarist Brian Patton, whose more-lethal-than-ever guitar skills add a new dimension to the SOILENT landscape. “All the chaos we’ve had in the past few years has kind of calmed down a bit.”
‘
Based loosely around the band’s history of struggle and general feelings of hopelessness and dejection and punctuated by John Van Fleet’s striking cover design, “Inevitable Collapse” is a 42 minute soundtrack to reality; Ben Falgoust’s varying vocal tones and cutting verbalization bringing its concept to the forefront with crippling urgency.
‘
“It’s the basic idea of no hope. It’s in reference to the history of SOILENT GREEN and also just life in general,” Falgoust notes of the record’s unofficial theme. “Everybody is always picturing things with a happy ending, but life’s not always like that. Every individual out there gets to a point where they feel like they’ve struggled to a point and never got anything out of it. It happens every day. That’s the point of this record. Sometimes, even when you put your all into something and work hard, things don’t always work out in the end. That’s just the way life falls sometimes.”
‘
“It’s a pretty heavy name,” adds Patton. “I came up with it. I’ve been dealing with a lot of issues in life. We’ve had a lot of deaths in our little circle. Glenn (Rambo, original vocalist) passed away in the hurricane, our old bass player ended up getting shot and you know, we’ve had a lot of issues with just family. It hasn’t been all peaches and cream out in this area. So it’s just a depression type theme; when you’re given hope and it’s taken from you. It’s pretty heavy. Ben’s got a lot going on in his brain so. And I must say,” he adds with a laugh, “he makes it really hard for crowds to yell out titles of songs.”
‘
Touted as “one of the ten most important hard and heavy bands” by Rolling Stone magazine, SOILENT GREEN has been releasing consistently brutal and groove-laden albums since their first full-length, “Pussysoul”, in 1994.
‘
SOILENT GREEN are true road warriors and have played a countless number of shows and toured with bands like PANTERA, CLUTCH, MORBID ANGEL, EYEHATEGOD, BRUTAL TRUTH, ANAL CUNT, NAPALM DEATH, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, GWAR, and ISIS, just to name a few.
