Following the critically lauded release of their debut single “Shame” (July ‘07) and follow up “Come Clean” (October ‘07) and two acclaimed UK tours, Mexicolas are set to release their debut album in February 2008.
Based in a self contained factory studio/rehearsal/living space in Birmingham, meet, then, Mexicolas: singer and guitarist Jamie Evans, bassist Del Carter, and drummer Tim Trotter, a band whose music breathes with the pure sonic rock aggression of Stone Temple Pilots and QOTSA at their peak, but with a pop nous redolent of Green Day at their most buoyant.
From the driving riffs of debut single “Shame” to pumping bass led “Big In Japan”, from the alt radio-friendly feel of “Falling Into Myself” to the powerful mid tempo emotion of “Times Infinity”, from the soaring hook infused melodies of “Lovers Are Not Enemies” to the euphoric Police-esque dynamics of closer “Spies”, “X” is a stunning debut album, bristling with driving rhythm sections, punchy staccato guitars, instant choruses and the unique voice of Jamie Evans. The album displays a depth of songwriting rare for a third album, let alone a debut! The album was produced by Danny Sprigg (Lost Prophets, Suffrajets) & Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, Ryan Adams) and mixed by Dave Bascombe (Verve, Suede, Placebo, Snow Patrol, Depeche Mode, Echo & the Bunnymen, Peter Gabriel) at Metropolis studio.
Mexicolas garnered some great reactions from UK rock club land in 2007, where “Shame” and “Come Clean” became staples of key nights. Early 2008 will see the band play the USA for the first time on the back of songs being placed in the hugely successful EA games “Burnout Paradise” (formerly “Burnout 5”) and “UEFA EURO 2008” soccer (both out in 2008).
2007 saw Mexicolas establishing themselves as an accomplished live act. Conquering the alternative rock circuit and selling out venues around their home base in the Midlands (the sure sign of a band on the up). The band will be supporting the release with a full UK tour in early 2008.
