,
London crazy oiks, Down I Go release their second album for Undergroove on June 2 2008, entitled ‘Tyrant’.
,
down i go tyrantThe follow-up to 2006’s ‘This Is Disastercore’ sees Down I Go exploring the theme of tyrannical world leaders throughout history, so like its predecessor Down I Go have successfully managed to introduce historical education into the world of punk rock. This time however, the misery of the persecuted and the persecutors, as well as the hypocrisy of each Tyrant’s rule is reflected in the musical brutality that Down I Go deliver.
,
As drummer Ben Standage explains: “When we started researching bad people like Vlad the Impaler and Pol Pot, we realized it’d be a much darker album and that we’d have to take it more seriously. With ‘Disastercore’, all those deaths were accidental, but suddenly we’re writing about torture, and massacres and ethnic cleansing, which were all very deliberate. There’s no room for humour in this one.”
,
Recorded at Ben’s house in London, ‘Tyrant’ sees Down I Go push themselves musically, incorporating eight piece string sections recorded at their local church, and orchestral percussion, giving songs such as ‘Tomas De Torquemada’, ‘Ariel Sharon’ and ‘Ivan The Terrible’ even more dynamic edges.
,
‘This Is Disastercore’ was released in late 2006 to critical acclaim - gaining rave reviews in Rock Sound, Big Cheese, and Metal Hammer while Kerrang! even described the album as “ingenious”. BBC Radio One Rock Show and XFM Rock Show airplay also ensued.
,
In the United States Alternative Press magazine featured Down I Go as one of their hottest bands of 2007, while in Germany the album artwork created by Jacob Stories’ frontman Stuart Lee is set to feature in a forthcoming coffee table book of great album artwork. Stuart has once again created all the artwork for ‘Tyrant’, this time in oils.
,
It went without saying the band played a host of shows around the UK and Ireland to support ‘This Is Disastercore’.
,
In the time between the releases, guitarist Alan Booth joined Brighton metallers Johnny Truant, while Down I Go also released a limited edition EP entitled ‘This Is Robotcore’ which sold out in weeks.

,

But with the arrival of ‘Tyrant’, Down I Go have raised their game and delivered a truly educational, ambitious and glorious racket. Get ready for the revolution!
