Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Ozzy Osbourne – four names that resonate throughout Rock’s recorded history as clear and sublime as the bell that tolls the opening to the bands eponymous debut album from 1970.
,
Collectively, they formed Black Sabbath and forged the most haunting and hypnotic rock sound of all time. From humble beginnings, the Birmingham quartet enslaved the minds and souls of millions of rock fans around the world and continue to do so into the new millennium. The musical genre they created inspired countless musicians and spawned countless bands, all of which have attempted to emulate the Heavy Metal originators. Few have come close to rival the uniquely powerful musical make-up of the all powerful Black Sabbath.
,
Sabbath’s massive influence on modern music cannot be underestimated. VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock ranked them second, behind only Led Zeppelin, in importance and influence. Black Sabbath have sold multiple million albums worldwide to date.
,
“The Best Of Black Sabbath” is a 14 track collection of classic tracks from across the bands first eight albums – including tracks from 1970’s debut “Black Sabbath” and follow up “Paranoid”, 1971’s “Master Of Reality”, 1972’s “Volume 4”, 1973’s “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and 1978’s “Never Say Die”. The album brings some of the best loved and most influential rock songs of all time together on one album – including such classics as “Paranoid”, “Iron Man”, “Black Sabbath”, “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”, “War Pigs” and the original version of “Changes” (a song that went on to become a UK No1 in 2003 when re-recorded by Kelly Osbourne feat Ozzy Osbourne). “The Best Of Black Sabbath” is a must have for any self respecting music fan…

Dutch Death Metal pioneers GOD DETHRONED entered Soundlodge studios in Germany in October with producer Jörg Uken to begin recording its new album, ‘Passiondale’, for an April 2009 release via Metal Blade Records.
’Passiondale’ will be a concept album about World War I.
,
Songtitles set to appear on the CD are as follows:
1. Under A Darkening Sky
2. Behind Enemy Lines
3. Drowning in Mud
4. No-Man’s Land
5. Passiondale
6. Poison Fog
7. Fallen Empires
8. Artifacts of the Great War
9. No Survivors
,
Guitarist/vocalist Henri Sattler has issued the following update: “Rhythm guitars, bass and lead guitars are all finished now. We took some time off from the studio to prepare some new things for us, like different bass lines, harmonies and other stuff we haven’t done like this before.
Producer Jörg Uken learned some new things when it came down to my unconventional way of composing harmony lines. One day we would record a melody line and the harmony just on the clicktrack to put it into the song later. He goes, ‘This already sounds out of tune like this and we haven’t even put it in the music yet.’ I go, ‘Just put it in the music, Jörg.” It was nice to see this big question mark above his head when we checked out the result. It sounded just great.”
,
“You can check that out yourself when our album comes out somewhere in April next year.
Right now I’m finishing my lyrics and I already screamed my lungs out on a few tracks. Actually, now I’m writing the lyrics for the album, I realize how intensely sick this war was. World War I had the biggest amounts of casualties during a single battle than any other war in history. I’ve been stunned quite a few times when I did research for my lyrics. Anyway, vocals should be ready by the end of next week.
,
Then last but not least, we also started to work with keyboard player Danny Servaes again. He also played keyboards on the ‘Grand Grimoire’ and ‘Bloody Blasphemy’ albums. He just knows what to play to our songs and as promised our new album will go back to those old times, sound- and song-wise.” , ‘Passiondale’ is scheduled for release in April of 2009 via Metal Blade Records!

“We wanna say a huge thanks to our bros over at Phillips Brewery on Vancouver Island for making a dream come true. We think this is pretty fucking rad, and apparently so does the Georgia Straight, check it out….” , By Adrian Mack
Publish Date: December 4, 2008 Since it’s still not strictly legal to hand out chunks of Red Lebanese to the public, organizers came up with the next best thing to promote local metal maniacs Bison b.c.’s appearance at this week’s Transmission Conference. For one night only, Bison Beer will be served when the band joins the bill at the former Storyeum building (151 Cordova Street) on Friday (December 5).
,
According to Matt Phillips, CEO of Victoria’s Phillips Brewing Company, it was producer Tyl van Toorn’s idea. “I don’t know how serious it was,” Phillips told the Straight, “but I guess there were some negotiations going on to get them to play, and Tyl said, ‘We’ll get a beer done for you.’ ” The price was right for the band, and Phillips Brewing got the job of relabelling its popular Phoenix Gold lager with amended cover artwork from Bison b.c.’s Quiet Earth album. Not that any such precautions are needed, but the label also reads “Please Don’t Throw Me At the Stage.”
,
Phillips said that the company is producing “about 30 dozen cases” of Bison Beer, but wouldn’t say how many were going straight to singer-guitarist James Farwell and his cohorts. “There’s some stuff that I just don’t know if I can disclose,” he said.

HateSphere from Denmark are the latest addition to the Napalm Records Family. The band has been releasing their deadly mix of Death and Thrash Metal for almost ten years. Band leader Pepe Hansen promises the upcoming full-length will stay true to the HateSphere’s attitude: “No compromise and no experiments!” Metal fans should fasten their seatbelt and prepare for an all crushing package.
,
A new album is tentatively scheduled for spring 2009. “It is with great pleasure that HateSphere announce our cooperation with Napalm Records. The last year has been really hectic for us. Not in a bad sense, but we have been working hard on both new material, playing shows and changing the line-up. The great changes the band has been going through have meant that we needed a record label that would support us 100%. Napalm is not only very professional, they also have a great varied roster, and they have shown to be willing to support HateSphere in the way that we want. Our new album has been just completed, and no need to say that we really can’t wait to get started with our work with Napalm. Early next year the album will be out, and Napalm Records and HateSphere are on their way. See you out there - stronger than ever! Cheers, Pepe and HateSphere”

The Modern Age Slavery who have their debut album released on the 28th November (Album review here) with Damned To Blindness have decided to elevate their song “Vile Mother Earth” to the next level. The result is a video that captures the sheer brutality and intensity of the track and leaves the viewer gasping for air. Fans may watch the video HERE
,
,
THE MODERN AGE SLAVERY confirm that which has made them infamous in the underground scene by delivering a relentless Deathcore debut that takes no prisoners. The band offers no respite from grinding blast beats, merciless brutal vocals, and slaughtering double bass rapid-fire. With one infernal track following another, they leave no room for ballads or acoustic interludes, as they end their barbaric hell ride with a cover version of
Entombed’s “Wolverine Blues”. While the band presents a modern-day release, they continue to pay tribute to the spirit of the scene’s forerunners. The album is brilliantly rounded off by the work of Dennis Sibeijn, who is once again able to uncompromisingly transform the band’s vision into art. A must-have for fans of Job for a Cowboy, Decapitated, and Aborted.

Grave Digger, who shot a clip to the title track of their upcoming album “Ballads of a Hangman”. The video to “Ballad of a Hangman” offers everything a metal heart could yearn for: Eerie ruins, murderous monks, a damsel in distress, and the band at what they do best! To ease the anticipatory wait, fans may watch the video below:
,
,
GRAVE DIGGER confirms once again their legendary status in the world of heavy metal with “Ballads of a Hangman”. While celebrating genuine old-school metal and remaining loyal to their trademark sound with driving guitar riffs, thundering double bass, soulful solos, and catchy choruses, songs like “Pray” or the title track can already be hailed as the latest classics of the true metal genre. Charismatic frontman Chris Boltendahl reigns over the instrumental faction, adding the finishing touches to the longplayer with his distinctive vocals. As a special highlight, he shares the vocal responsibilities with Veronica Freeman of Benedictum on the partial ballad “Lonely the Innocence Dies”. The recordings took place at Principal Studios under the guidance of the Resetti Brothers, who have provided GRAVE DIGGER with a sound so forceful and fresh like never before. GRAVE DIGGER strikes back with 120% metal!

At the moment, Elis vocalist Sandra is recording the vocal tracks for the upcoming album at Mastersound Studio.
,
Sandra: “It is the first full-length album we are recording together, and an important step for us. For me, this album is something very special because I was able to contribute a lot and I developed a very personal concept for it, even though it will not be a true concept album. I’m having great fun at the studio, and I can’t wait to hold the final result in my hands.” More updates (e.g., the album title) will be revealed shortly.
,
We decided that the new ELIS record will be named CATHARSIS. We were discussing a lot about what fits best to the stories the songs on our new album tell, and we hat a lot of different options, some of them really quite funny, but when we finally came to the name CATHARSIS it was clear that this says it with one word.
Sandra: “Some time ago, shortly before I joined ELIS, I had to go through a very hard time, physical wise the hardest experience in my life. I was fighting against a severe disease, and while my body was struggling I felt my soul started to go it’s own way. I came to new insights, and started to develop a very intense strength, like I never would have imagined I would be able to, but which was really essential for me at that time. I was taken out of the “real life” for about half a year, and felt like an onlooker, not participating in the real world. With the stories I tell on CATHARSIS I am kind of digesting this period in my life, sharing my feelings, fears and also the things I saw as an “outcast” watching the world. The word. “CATHARSIS” has some different meanings, but for me it represents “the healing of the soul by going through tragedy”.
As I see it now, to see how magic life can be I also had to experience it’s dark side…”

New to Napalm Records is the legendary Jungle Rot. The Americans are devoted to old school Death Metal, a style that is hard to find in this day and age. Brutal songs with a deadly groove are the band’s foremost agenda. The band will enter the studio in December in order to record the material for the upcoming album. Fans of old school Death Metal can look forward to a bloody slugfest. The release of the Napalm debut (“What Horrors Await”) is tentatively scheduled for spring 2009.
,
“It’s nice to finally have a label we can call home. We have watched this label grow from their beginnings. We’re definitely glad to be part of the Napalm roster and we hope to be a great asset and addition to the label. The new album is going to completely crush! We look forward to a long and prosperous tenure with Napalm Records!”

2008 sees the release of a second full album from Helgrind after teaming up once again with Dave Chang. The album “Religious Persecution“ has thirteen new songs all written after reading reviews from previous releases and listening to the fan base, the band truly feel they have found the true Helgrind sound and have something they can use as a template for future releases.
,
“Religious Persecution” is about the amount of hatred that the human race suffers through their beliefs. How we are ethically told not to harm one another, yet find it so easy to go against our system of belief to kill in gods name.
,
All the songs on “Religious Persecution” have a meaning prejudice or personal sacrifice for something you believe in and the persecution won’t end until all the lies have been heard and shown for what they are.
,
“A Helgrind show is not for the feint hearted as they cause mayhem in the pit with their no-nonsense brutal pounding speed and aggressive rhythms, so get down the front, wreck shit up and don’t forget your neckbrace!!!!!”
,
“Helgrind sway between total aggression and more considered body shots” - Glasswerk
,
“With rampant riffing and whiplash solos, Helgrind are like Slayer circa Reign in Blood” - Metal Observer

German Death Metal warriors LAY DOWN ROTTEN have finished the pre-production for their upcoming new album. Here´s an update from LAY DOWN ROTTEN guitar player Daniel Jakobi.
, “Howdy! We just finished the pre-production for the successor of our Metal Blade debut ‘Reconquering The Pit’. We are really happy about the result and actually can´t wait for early December to come to enter the Desert Inn studios and record the new album. The working title for it is ‘Katharsis…Or The Principle Of Death’, but this is subject to correction. The upcoming album will be quite a challenge for us. For the first time we will mix and master the album outside Germany. We have decided to go to Sweden and let Dan Swanö do the mix and mastering. Some of you might know Dan is my definite Death Metal hero so having him work on the album means a lot to me personally. Then we´ll have a couple of guest appearances of top-class Death Metal singers on the album. I won´t give you names yet, but we are talking about true Death Metal legends from the early days of our beloved music style and I am extremely excited having them on the next LAY DOWN ROTTEN record. We will reveal all those details in the near future so stay tuned and keep an eye on our online studio diary once we have started recordings. We will perform a new song called ‘Hours Of Infinity’ on the ‘Darkness Over X-Mass tour’ in December so come by, check us out and have a drink with us!”

We’re FINALLY done with all the finishing touches of our new album and we feel we’ve finally done it! Sonically, the band has managed to finally capture and accentuate its live intensity that we’ve become known for and has created one hell of an album from start to epic finish! Conceptually, its misanthropy shall go unmatched. This is it, humans… ferocity at its finest.
,
The album is called “The Harvest Floor”, a title Travis has been kicking around in his head and working towards for the last 2 albums and will arrive as an enhanced CD! The actual title refers to the area of a slaughterhouse where the animal (of course in our case it always means the HUMAN) begins the agonizing process of death, usually done with a bolt to the forehead or a slice to the throat. “The Harvest Floor” is a fitting title for an album laden in gore and the anti-human metaphors and sentiments CATTLE DECAPITATION fans have grown to know and love.
,
Artwork by Wes Benscoter shows the outside of a large slaughterhouse/factory of doom and gloom with the general public being herded inside to meet their demise.
The inside of the album layout reveals what’s really inside that slaughterhouse: our misanthropic heroes of gore (not core) at another hard day of work! Combined with the amazing artwork and conceptually brutal layout, the CD version of “The Harvest Floor” also contains an enhanced portion which sports an I-pod ready documentary titled “Pandemic: The Damnation Epic – The Making of “The Harvest Floor” which, simply put, makes ““The Harvest Floor” an apocalyptic multimedia epic!”
,
Track listing“The Harvest Floor”:
,
1. The Gardeners of Eden
2. A Body Farm
3. We are Horrible People
4. Tooth Enamel & Concrete
5. The Ripe Beneath the Rind
6. The Product Alive
7. In Axetasy
8. Into the Public Bath
9. The Harvest Floor
10. Regret & the Grave
,
No strangers to guest appearances, CATTLE DECAPITATION have enlisted some old friends for guest vocals including Ross Sewage (Impaled/Ludicra) and Dino Sommese (Dystopia/Asunder). The band is also very pleased to announce there is a special appearance by Jarboe (Swans), lending her beautifully haunting voice to the epic death dirge “The Harvest Floor”. Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon/Amber Asylum) graces a couple tracks with her electric cello and Los Angeles noisician John Wiese also lends his electronic/atmospheric expertise to the album further separating the band from the typical “cookie-cutter” approach applied all too often by today’s extreme acts.
,
“The Harvest Floor” shows a return to the engineering and production skills of Billy Anderson (Mr. Bungle, Melvins, Swans) with a combination of drum recording by Zach Ohren (All Shall Perish, Decrepit Birth) to create a modern but unique sound that is disturbingly pummeling. Holed up in Sharkbite studios in Oakland, CA for nearly a month away from the punishing light of day, CATTLE DECAPITATION hid in the depths and have sprouted new hell with the masterpiece that is… “The Harvest Floor” ,
Check out the brandnew song ‘A Body Farm’ HERE!
,
“The Harvest Floor” will be released the 30th of January 2009 in D/A/CH/I and the 2nd of February 2009 in the rest of Europe.

Tampa, Florida’s godfathers of death metal, CANNIBAL CORPSE have dubbed ‘Evisceration Plague’ as the title to the group’s brand new studio album due out on January, 30 (D/A/CH/I), February, 2 (rest of Europe). ‘Evisceration Plague’ marks the follow up to the bands extremely successful 2006 release KILL (debuted at #170 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart), which has become the fastest selling Cannibal album in the band’s storied career as well as highest selling album since 1996’s Vile (debuted at #151 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart). To capture the speed, ferocity, and musicianship that CANNIBAL CORPSE has become known for the band decided to head back Mana Recording Studios with producer Erik Rutan (who also produced KILL) at the helm. Bassist Alex Webster comments, “In Cannibal Corpse our goal has always been to try and make each new album we record our heaviest. That goal was a bit more challenging this time since we were extremely satisfied with our last album KILL, but we knew that by working with producer Erik Rutan at Mana Recording Studios again, we would be able to start at that same level of heaviness and take it even further. Now that we can hear the finished product, I would say we’ve been able to achieve this goal, and I think our fans will agree. ‘Evisceration Plague’ has the best guitar sound we’ve ever recorded, and the entire band has never played with more precision and power. We can’t wait until you all get a chance to hear the album in early 2009, because we think you’ll be as happy with it as we are.” Keep an eye on the CANNIBAL CORPSE MySpace page for more updates on the upcoming album ‘Evisceration Plague’, a new track, and upcoming tour dates. ‘Evisceration Plague’ track listing:
